#48765 Wii U specs leaked?

Posted by 10k on 22 December 2011 - 12:11 PM in Wii U Hardware

So to sum up:

IBM Power7 based CPU with unknown clock speed, but for sure quad-core
An AMD GPU based off of RV770 architecture (which is a radeon 4830 or something) that can support only directx 10.1 and is 40nm
Six channel audio with support up to 6.1 surround sound
8gb of internal memory, external HDD and USB's are supported
Unknown RAM (rumored to be a GB shared between CPU and GPU which is 2x that of the Xbox/Playstation)
"lots of eDRAM" says IBM, the maximum it can support is 32MB

Off the shelf parts that are close to these rumors?

CPU - 3.0GHz Quad Core with hyper threading and 32MB of eDRAM (a.k.a. L3 cache, which Xbox only has 10) (Nintendo will want to keep cost and heat down, so clocking it below 3.2 is recommended. Keep in mind that even though Xbox is clocked at 3.2 it only has 3 cores. The extra core at 3.0 makes the Wii U processor much faster)

GPU - Radeon 4870 256 mbit GDDR5 Memory (it was manufactured at 55nm, but now that it's round 3.5 years old Nintendo will get it customized at 40nm to make it smaller and create less heat)

RAM - 1GB DDR3 Shared between CPU and GPU

The rest will be motherboard stuff and ports, etc.

MorbidGod: As I said early IBM saying it used watson tech could of meant any number of things and it certainly doesn't limit it to a Power7 core.

Tenkay23: Your parts are far too powerful. A quadcore P7 chip consumes 100watts, as does a 4870 on 40nm(better known as a 5770). That's 200watts JUST from two chips, while the whole Wii used ~18watts.

Yes buy HD consoles consume 200-300 watts and this thing has to run native 1080p and support streaming to two wii u tablets.

#88909 Crytek: Wii U is 'minimum as powerful as Xbox 360'

Posted by 10k on 20 June 2012 - 08:37 AM in Wii U Hardware

So if you DOUBTERS on this site actually read between the lines like I have been saying. He basically said in that interview the Wii U is already running a next gen engine. But I'm sure that isn't good enough for you guys.

Cryengine 3 runs on both PS3 and 360 downscaled. It's not next gen. Call me when they say frostbite 2 or unreal 4.

UE4 also runs on xbox360 and ps3 downscaled. call me when u actually know something about technology

Unreal 4 hasn't been released yet lol. It's a next gen engine that can only be ran by a 2011 level GPU. Call ME when you learn something about technology. Just because I am trying to be realistic and keep your hype levels in check doesn't mean you can start insulting me. I insulted nobody. Just because I said something that disagrees with your point of view I get insulted? Grow up dude.

#80965 Nintendo slightly updates Wii U Logo

Posted by 10k on 26 May 2012 - 05:04 PM in Wii U Hardware

I'm digging the darker blue. I hope they make their game cases this shade of blue to separate it from the Wii game cases. Plus blue is a sexy color.

Blue is my Uncle's favorite color.

Random lol.

My hope was Nintendo would go back to their red logo and make the Wii U look white, grey and red. Have the "Wii" as grey and the "U" as red and the console white with red trimmings, a red tray light and home button light, and some grey lines as well.

Something like these 10 minute shops I did with Gimp (the poor man's Photoshop)

I mean like, the 3DS is already branded as black and red, and Nintendo does use the red Nintendo logo on game cases and the back of game cases. Why not share the themes as they are similiar products? PS3 and Vita are now blue themed. Apple's iProducts are all similarly colored in white or black. Microsoft brands all there stuff in green. Nintendo needs to use Red like in the good old days. Red cases for 3DS games and red Wii U game cases.

Huh. I guess the slight change actually DOES change perceptions. I guess it does sorta change from a "girly" teal color to a more neutral blue. I do agree that I miss the red branding though. Even if I do associate purple systems with Nintendo...

Red FTW!

#79602 RUMOR: Retro's New Game to be "Star Fox – Metroid: Fusion Saga"

Posted by 10k on 20 May 2012 - 03:09 PM in Wii U Games and Software

It could work. Both are space themed franchises. I can see players controlling Samus's ship and/or the Arwing through multiple missions and then having ground like missions, where Fox uses cover based shooting a la Mass Effect combat, while Samus controls more like the Prime games. There could be voiceover and comchat, etc.

But I would rather each franchise get a nice HD reboot with lot's of eyecandy and great tablet use.

#62969 E3 WiiU controller

Posted by 10k on 21 February 2012 - 07:02 PM in Wii U Hardware

You mean the analog stick things?

It'll have far better than PSV graphics, since the graphics are rendered by a higher than PS3 spec console.

Black is totes hardcore.
Question is, why do you care if it looks hardcore or not?

:(

I'm pretty happy with the screen, if they make it like a DS touch screen it'll be great for gaming with.

The touchscreen easily replaces clickable sliders. Also, the wii u screen is only 480p while the Vita is 544p. A it has less pixels than the vita.

Edit: Fixed lol

#87642 Wii U Triggers: Analog or Digital?

Posted by 10k on 14 June 2012 - 06:21 AM in Wii U Hardware

The digital triggers are the equivalent shape of the B button on the Wii Remote (the pro controller is). The GamePad triggers are wider but they have the same type of click as the B button but just wider.

#57570 RUMOR: Nintendo considering renaming the Wii U

Posted by 10k on 26 January 2012 - 12:45 PM in Wii U Hardware

I don't expect much. Honestly Nintendo loves the "Wii" brand and I don't see them getting rid of it. I bet they will just name it Wii 2 for the casual crowd to treat it like an iPad 2. Than people will ask if they can use their wii games for it and wii controllers and people will say "yes" and then they will question whats the point in buying a new console if they can just keep their wii games. Than they will ask if wii 2 games can be played in the wii 1 and all this BS will occur.

What I hope for is just the Nintendo U.

U is for you.
U is for ultimate
U is for utopia
U is for Universe

Or go with something cool like Nintendo Zion (posted that name in the what would you name the wii. Thread)

#57669 RUMOR: Nintendo considering renaming the Wii U

Posted by 10k on 26 January 2012 - 05:30 PM in Wii U Hardware

They should separated the next console from the wii by establishing a edgier name for it's new console. We may even see it this summer.

Read this:
http://www.nintendoenthusiast.com/2012/01/26/nintendo-may-ship-wii-u-to-one-market-as-early-as-this-summer/

I read this earlier. It's Obvious Japan will get it first. The only consoles that were released in the summer time by Nintendo were the SNES and NES but that was japan. The closest to summer a NA release was the N64 (September).

#57574 RUMOR: Nintendo considering renaming the Wii U

Posted by 10k on 26 January 2012 - 12:54 PM in Wii U Hardware

sorry bro but zion? u know what that means right? you know zionism is like the ideology behind the creation of israel, its not a simple name to be given to anything, and it's a very sensitive issue too, cool word but with HUGELY controversial implications

Yeah it also means utopia. Maybe reword it to Scion or something like the car brand haha.

#70728 Wii U Manufacturing costs?

Posted by 10k on 08 April 2012 - 07:05 PM in Wii U Hardware

It sounds very likely. I believe it. If it is true, individual controllers will cost about 65$, which is perfectly reasonable, especially if only two tablet controllers are compatible with each system.

60 days till we find out!

No, the cost to make will be $65. Then you have to include shipping, packaging, retailer markup, middleman markup, and then you got yourself an $80 controller approx.

#80966 PS4 tech demo E3 2012... book it!

Posted by 10k on 26 May 2012 - 05:08 PM in General Gaming

They're going to be the last to show something, but they're the first conference of E3. In other words, it's not happening.

Apple has a console. It's called the iPad/iPod Touch/iPhone. Valve has already said they're not making a system.

Seriously TRON, what happened? You used to make sense when talking about things. Now all I've heard from you recently is gobbledygook and nonsense.

Sounds like his younger sibling got a hold of his account and started typing and making threads.

#74165 RUMOR: [Some of you are probably really happy] - Wii U renamed Nintendo U

Posted by 10k on 23 April 2012 - 02:43 PM in Wii U Hardware

For god sakes people, this is fake! Check your sources and read first. Nintendo already got approval to use Wii U trademark everywhere except the USA and Mexico. Europe and Asia is fine. They really like the name.

#48878 What color/decoration would you want on your wii u?

Posted by 10k on 23 December 2011 - 04:43 AM in Wii U Hardware

A golden Zelda themed Wii U would be epic. But more realistically I want all black. The black wii looked so awesome especially when the blue disc slot was illuminated. Even the red one was good too, for the super Mario 25th anniversary. Just anything but white, white looks so cheap and shows dirt. But Nintendo won't want to abandon the white because its one of wii's trademarks

#57165 Xbox 720 to be 20% more powerful then the Wii U

Posted by 10k on 24 January 2012 - 10:07 PM in Wii U Hardware

well here we are people the time has come where i think i can declare that nintendo has another winner on there hands i cant wait for the wii u.

btw if one thing is needed its dx11 i cant stress this enough we NEED IT

Agreed. I'm skeptical though because the Radeon RV700 architecture cards only support DX10.1 while the 6670 supports 11. That alone could leave the Wii U in the dust again and nintendo will have another Gamecube on their hands.

But it is supposedly a customized card based off of the Radeon 4xxx series, so maybe they can add in DX11 support.

#57171 Xbox 720 to be 20% more powerful then the Wii U

Posted by 10k on 24 January 2012 - 10:49 PM in Wii U Hardware

i think they will be smart enough to go all out on this console and at least support dx11 plus who knows maybe its highly customize remember its based off that series but who knows how much they changed it. hopefully its drastically different in the good way

The Shader Model is not as high as the 6670 so nintendo needs two things for sure from it's GPU, DX11 and SM5.0

I think for sure the card will be 40nm instead of the 55nm because Nintendo likes small components that dont generate alot of heat.

#57163 Xbox 720 to be 20% more powerful then the Wii U

Posted by 10k on 24 January 2012 - 10:01 PM in Wii U Hardware

6670 also supports DirectX11 and uses a more sophisticated shader model (something that held back the Wii greatly, not just the fact it wasn't HD). But the 4870 can do more processing at once, fill in more pixels quickly, do things faster and let's not forget the 4870 will be customized to be smaller and produce less heat and use up less energy (probably around 40nm instead of the 55nm), and they may add DirectX11 support. But if you do a straight comparison, the 4870 wins in many benchmarks.

My source:
4870 = 1741 G3D Mark
6670 = 1227 G3D Mark
(Higher Number is better)

http://www.videocard...=Radeon+HD+4870
http://www.videocard...=Radeon+HD+6670

As you can see in the link below, no matter how much VRAM Nintendo dedicates to the 4850 or 4870 (either 512MB or 1GB). The 512MB 4850is most likely if also have 1GB of regular RAM

Ignore the GTX 295, that's my own video card and I got curious :P

http://www.graphicsc...om/page/compare

Also ignore the orange and red bars, you have to include 8 video cards so i just chose randomly. Focus on the 6670 and up (yellow and green)

EDIT: Can't post the pics. Use the website yourselves. Compare the video cards it gives you expected performance % it's awesome.

Even the lowest end 4850 is said to outperform the 6670 by 10.6% (that's the cheapest possible Rv700 card Nintendo could use.)
The mid-range RV700 card the 4870 512GB outperforms the 6670 by 39.4%
The upper-mid range card 4850 1GB outperforms the 6670 by 15.6%
The highest RV700 card the 4870 1GB outperforms the 6670 by 44.3%

Sony. Definitely without a doubt, Sony.

Oh by far. Can't reason with them. Say one negative thing about a Sony brand and you are a troll

#58071 When will the Colorful Wiiu's be revealed?

Posted by 10k on 28 January 2012 - 01:03 AM in Wii U Hardware

If they release a Gold one for the Zelda game, I will sell my Wii U and soul to get one. Seriously, Nintendo always does this. They launch with one color and than in the middle of the generation they do a price cut and add new colors to entice new buyers. The N64 started it, the Gamecube was the best at it (seriously wanted to trade my Indigo one for a Platinum one) and the Wii was too late to the game (black in 2010, red special edition for Super Mario 25th anniversary, and Blue in 2011 for some Wal-Mart Promotion).

If Nintendo wants to be more hardcore and change the Wii U name they may want to launch with Black instead of white to differentiate the system from the Wii (or launch with white and black, 2 colors like the 3DS)
