#10645 Jack Tretton (PS CEO) talks Wii U

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 24 June 2011 - 08:47 AM in Wii U Hardware

I hate Sony as a company. But I do enjoy a lot of their games :D

I'm not sure why every one of their representatives has to speak their mouth about their certain vendetta against Nintendo every chance they get, but it's very bad mannered.

#10633 Wii U Price Discussion

EB games never lists the price right. It originally said the 3DS would cost $350.

#9950 PS4: the weakest console next gen?

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 21 June 2011 - 06:08 PM in General Gaming

I hope this is true.

I just think it would be really hilarious for some reason.

#7771 Let's Talk IPs!

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 16 June 2011 - 01:22 PM in Wii U Games and Software

That's not really true.

Metroid Other M for example wasn't developed inside Nintendo. That doesn't mean it's not a Nintendo IP.

Nintendo can co-develop/publish IPs with devs outside their company.

Yes, but Metroid is Nintendo's franchise.

Publishing a game does not make it your IP.

#7716 I think there's a handheld better then the 3DS.

It's not at all uncommon for developers to handle more than one title at once, you have to remember that guys like Miyamoto come up with the ideas and oversee the projects, they don't actually have to do much of the labor in programming, visual design, etc...Miyamoto usually has the role as the "Producer" or "Director" in most games and in reality many of the games (even IPs he created) aren't actually created by him (as far as story and such). His job is to give people a clear picture of what to do, then make sure they are doing it. Because of that he (like many video game Directors or Producers) will work on multiple titles at a time checking progress on each periodically.

The thing I've always found odd about Miyamoto is that he's been creating games for over 30 years and yet he himself isn't actually a gamer, and he's regularly stated he rarely plays video games.

So? You don't have to play games very much to know how to develop them. It's kind of like with sports commentators. None of them play the sport, but they have a lot of knowledge about it.

#7603 What has Rare been up to?

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 16 June 2011 - 09:04 AM in General Gaming

OMG! REALLY?!

That's it?! That's ALL?! *sigh*

Well, I guess it's true what I've heard then. When Rare split from Nintendo, some of Rare's most talented people left Rare itself and formed another game developing company...I forget the name of the company, but I think the new company made the shooter called Time Splitters.

Free Radical Design? Yeah, that's what happened. The people who left were the ones who worked on Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark. They're called Crytek UK now, though.

They've been making most of the Kinect games.

#7594 Let's Talk IPs!

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 16 June 2011 - 08:55 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I'm pretty sure XenoBlade is a Nintendo IP. I'm not sure about last Story but it might be too.

There's Disaster: Day of Crisis but that game needs to be rebooted to be worthwhile.

Then there's Pandora's Tower.

It would be nice if Nintendo bought a couple of small, talented devs or created one or two new ones.

Regardless of the "Nintendo rehashes old IPs all the time" argument you hear so often, they always make new IPS every generation. Even on their handhelds.

I don't think next gen will be any different. We just have to see what we get.

Pandora's Tower was developed by Ganbarion. Not Nintendo. Unless a game is developed by a group in Nintendo or one of their first-party developers (Monolith Soft, Retro, Brownie Brown, Intelligent Systems, Project Sora, ND Cube and Hal laboratory) then it can't be considered a Nintendo IP.

#7385 What Consoles do you have?

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 15 June 2011 - 09:53 PM in General Gaming

WOW, that's a very nice collection. Is an xbox 360 the only console you're missing? lol.

I don't own the orignal Gameboy or Gameboy Colour. But seeing as I don't need them, pretty much.

#7361 Let's Talk IPs!

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 15 June 2011 - 09:01 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Just to confirm, Golden Sun isn't Nintendo's IP. It belongs to Camelot.

Anyways, Nintendo hasn't made an RPG since Mother 3, so I'd really like to see one of those.

#7339 wii u to hardcore for me?

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 15 June 2011 - 08:05 PM in Wii U Hardware

The term "hardcore" has lost its meaning over the years. A hardcore gamer is someone who puts a lot of their time into games. Playing them, researching info about them, you name it. They generally have a wide knowledge of games. It is NOT someone who just sits there and plays CoD online all of the time.

A hardcore game can be anything that isn't a family/party game. So yes, games like Super Mario Bros., Pikmin and Donkey Kong are all hardcore games. A game doesn't have to have a lot of blood and violence to be hardcore, it just has to be a game that takes a lot of skill, is really challenging and isn't just a one-time thing.

So if you aren't into the games that you mentioned, that doesn't mean you don't like hardcore games. It just means you aren't into those sorts of games.

Anyways, I'm sure there'll be some casual games on the Wii U like Wii U sports and Wii U play.

#7139 I think there's a handheld better then the 3DS.

Pandora's Tower is a pretty new Nintendo IP only just been released in Japan, looks pretty promising.

Pandora's Tower was developed by Ganbarion, not necessarily Nintendo. Nintendo DID publish it, though.

#7023 What Consoles do you have?

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 15 June 2011 - 10:27 AM in General Gaming

My Goodness, how do you afford games for them? And how do you find enough time to play them all? That's ridiculous!

Haha, I don't play most of them anymore. I mean, I've had my older systems for a long time. I only buy games for newer systems nowadays, seeing as I've played a lot of the older games already.

#6248 Your favorite game that no one plays

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 14 June 2011 - 02:36 PM in General Gaming

Valkyria Chronicles, 999, Monster Tale and Cave Story.

#5887 I think there's a handheld better then the 3DS.

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 14 June 2011 - 10:30 AM in General Gaming

The only games that really interests me thus far on the Vita is LBP and Wipeout. But the problem is: I already have both of those games on the PS3. And there's about 20 games on the 3DS so far that I really want. So unless the portable versions of LBP and Wipeout can offer me something different that I haven't experienced yet, I'll probably skip the platform. The only reason I could see myself buying it is for the exclusives.

Also, I didn't really take any offense to what rob_shadows said and I'm sure no other Canadians did. It was a joke and should be treated as such.

Another thing: Uncharted is highly overrated.

#5869 Origin of your username

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 14 June 2011 - 09:51 AM in The Café

When I was a kid, I always made my own Pokemon. One was a fire/bug type that was called Magmeatles (I was a kid, give me a break.)

And Magmeatles sounds silly, so I changed it to Magma Beatles.

#5862 Do you go to any other forums?

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 14 June 2011 - 09:46 AM in The Café

I mostly lurk on community.thespeedgamers.com and nerdyshore.com

I used to be relatively active on 3dsforums.com

This forum just got 1000 times better.

Nice to see you, Storm.

#5612 Nintendo's first fail...

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 14 June 2011 - 06:23 AM in Wii U Hardware

Does it really matter at all? Gameplay for the games that were shown wasn't ready on the Wii U yet. They couldn't show that gameplay, give them a break.

#5159 What 1st Party Franchise Do You Want At Launch?

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 13 June 2011 - 08:08 PM in Wii U Games and Software

lol, I really dropped the ball on that one. When was his last console game?? SNES?? He's due for a comeback.

Actually, the last console game was Yoshi's Story

But yes, the franchise definitely needs a revival.

#5106 What 1st Party Franchise Do You Want At Launch?

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 13 June 2011 - 07:29 PM in Wii U Games and Software

As much as I'd really like a new IP and another F-zero game, I had to put Pikmin 3.

Also, the list needs more Fire Emblem.

#5023 Are Friend Codes dead or alive? Apparently in this report they are dead

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 13 June 2011 - 06:31 PM in Wii U Hardware

I imagine all it is is a way to track the console. Every console will have a Friend Code, much more like a serial number, though. Then you can make your own account name.

At least, I hope this is how it plays out.

#5017 WIIU GAME CONCEPT THREAD

Posted by MagmaBeatles on 13 June 2011 - 06:27 PM in Wii U Games and Software

All I can think of is how easier it'll be to play RTS games on consoles now. Seeing as you can see the touch screen as a mouse of sorts.
