#131583 Wait What?

Posted by Eggplante! on 17 November 2012 - 03:16 PM in Wii U Hardware

In Canada, as well as the US, it is illegal to sell products with any sort of material rating (ESRB, Film Classification Board, etc.) before the street date.

In Canada, fines are anywhere from $15,000 for a single title to $140,000 for multiple offenses if I remember correctly. This applies to movies, games, hardware, etc.

A lot of smaller stores sell games and hardware before street date because this is the only way they can make money. A mom n pop games store might sell 500 copies of Halo 4 two days before launch because once it comes out, everyone will go to EBgames / Wal-Mart / wherever they buy games to get it.

#131737 Is the "hardcore" label being used wrong?

Posted by Eggplante! on 17 November 2012 - 07:12 PM in General Gaming

I think most non-gamers assume hardcore games involve anything with guns or heavy subject matter. Gamers (true gamers, that is) should understand that hardcore gamer means a passionate player of any genre of game.

#135354 More in-depth Wii U teardown.

Posted by Eggplante! on 21 November 2012 - 09:07 AM in Wii U Hardware

A lot of people like to tinker, so articles like this will come in handy later down the road when people cut windows in their Wii Us or do some other sort of mods. Being the first, iFixit has become the go to because Their guides are simple and detailed.

It will also certainly help those who need to repair themselves and have the confidence to do it themselves.

#132482 Wii U unboxing video thread

Posted by Eggplante! on 18 November 2012 - 01:40 PM in Wii U Hardware

I'm uploading mine now, should be up soon :D

Looking forward to it! IGN always has good coverage of this kind of stuff (and they're usually first), but it's always awesome to see how gamers comment on the unboxing while they do it.

#135138 Wii U supply not a issue....Yet.

Posted by Eggplante! on 20 November 2012 - 09:22 PM in Wii U Hardware

Don't forget that Wii demand was very limited only after Black Friday sales that year. The first few weeks was all about initial reception from gamers, but now that the console is out, once news media get hold of the story and put Wii U on all the holiday must have lists, you can bet supply will plummet.

#137738 The effects of cancer are horrible

Posted by Eggplante! on 24 November 2012 - 11:08 PM in The Café

Hey PotatoHog, this is a games forum but we're all human and willing to talk about whatever will help each other.

I've gone through some tough times as well, losing my closest friend to cancer.

PM me if you'd like to talk in private.

#135296 Gamestop screwed my Wii U preorder over!

Posted by Eggplante! on 21 November 2012 - 06:20 AM in General Gaming

In Canada, GameStop (EB Games here) didn't get enough units to fulfill pre-orders. Rather than organize by when people preordered, they decided to do a line-up for people who pre-ordered. I was okay, but some people in line who had pre-ordered in September were beaten out by people who had only pre-ordered a couple of weeks ago. Not the right way to do it.

#134079 Wii U Pro Controller Review

Posted by Eggplante! on 19 November 2012 - 09:11 PM in Wii U Hardware

Thanks for all the support!

I've got articles coming discussing the real pros and cons of the GamePad as a TV remote as well as plenty of game reviews starting tomorrow!

Should I keep posting them up? I don't want anyone to think I'm just here to spam!

#134470 Wii U Pro Controller Review

Posted by Eggplante! on 20 November 2012 - 08:07 AM in Wii U Hardware

nice little review :) .

On a side note, would it be possible to use the Pro controller with pc games, like you're able to do with a 360 controller?

We haven't tested anything yet, but our guess is that the USB cable only draws power, not data. Also, drivers would have to be written to utilize the buttons. You can't connect it wirelessly since it uses a Wii U-specific frequency for data transfer, but theoretically, it would be possible if the USB cable carries data.

#136524 007 Legends

Posted by Eggplante! on 22 November 2012 - 06:49 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I'm a total James Bond nut, personally. I'd like to think I know what makes a good Bond game and what doesn't, but that's just based on what I like from the Bond series. Here's what I know for a fact: 007 Legends sucked.

Here's the first paragraph of my review:

The back of the box of 007 Legends says “Live the legend and relive the world famous spy’s most iconic and intense undercover missions.” Boasting incredible missions – “most iconic and intense,” remember – from Goldfinger, Moonraker,Licence to Kill, Die Another Day, and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, in addition to some extra missions about Skyfall to be unlocked after the movie has been released in theatres, you would assume the game to be rather good.

Don’t.

(If you think this is spam, please let me know. Just trying to get myself out there to some people who are interested in certain topics. Not posting my own threads about my site!)

#133973 ***EB GAMES HAD 2 DELUXE MODELS TODAY***

Posted by Eggplante! on 19 November 2012 - 06:56 PM in Wii U Hardware

There will be a few shipments trickling into stores over the next few weeks, but they will be in one or two unit shipments and be completely unpredictable. As far as we know, Nintendo is not planning on another mass shipment of Wii U until it can produce a large batch, will not be until after the holiday season. They also like the hype of the machine so there is not a ton of added pressure for Wii U production. It is a big piece of what made the Wii as successful as it was outside of gaming circles while it was widely just a "meh" console within gaming circles.

#131325 ZombiU's a remake?

Posted by Eggplante! on 17 November 2012 - 06:51 AM in Wii U Games and Software

A remake is trying to keep the same themes and gameplay from the original, like Ocarina of Time.

A reboot is changing major components like gameplay, graphics, audio, and the overall game. Much like Kid Icarus.

#131323 wii u system review in progress

Posted by Eggplante! on 17 November 2012 - 06:48 AM in Wii U Hardware

I'd recommend Eggplante.com but that would be a bit self-serving, I think.

Either way, you need to keep in mind that IGN's review is in fact a review in progress, and you'll notice they're not really commenting on hardware and rather making vague impressions at this point.

Nintendo has actually embargoed the media from releasing hardware reviews until 12:01 PST on Sunday morning, and there's no way IGN will break that.

It is dangerous to read a review of a product half-way through, because there is a lot that could surprise in the first few days. Of course, there is also the fact that IGN is just one site. Imagine if all you read was GameSpot's Skyward Sword review and how you might think the game isn't nearly as good as it really is.

#144924 First Wii mini Unboxing!

Also, we're going to be doing a teardown of Nintendo's new console, so stay tuned to Eggplante.com for more! Enjoy and please let me know what you think!

#147731 First Wii mini Unboxing!

Posted by Eggplante! on 13 December 2012 - 03:14 PM in General Gaming

$100 is a bit pricey, but if you think about Nintendo releasing this thing at $79, why would anyone go out and buy another Wii Remote and Nunchuk and spend $69 when they could get a whole new system as a backup for an additional $10?

#131813 Wii U Speed.

Posted by Eggplante! on 17 November 2012 - 10:12 PM in Wii U Hardware

Take a look at my review on Eggplante.com, but overall, the software seems a bit sluggish for my tastes.

#132243 Wii U Speed.

Posted by Eggplante! on 18 November 2012 - 10:28 AM in Wii U Hardware

The Wii U does feel a bit slow, yeah. The Wii seemed to load games faster and had far more bearable load times. The noise of the machine is also quite ridiculous for a Nintendo console. It is at least as loud as an Xbox 360.

#130955 Wii U Unboxing

Posted by Eggplante! on 16 November 2012 - 02:16 PM in Wii U Hardware

You opened it up at the wrong side. Supposed to open it up with the little holes in the cardboard. That was hardly a review anyway.

It wasn't a review, it was an unboxing. Nintendo has embargoed all reviews on Wii U hardware until 12:01am PST on Sunday, November 18th. It's also why you won't see any visuals of the Wii U turned on from anyone other than Nintendo themselves until the first software update is released.

#130961 Wii U Unboxing

but can 3ds/dsi chargers fit into the upad's charging hole?

Nope, the 3DS charger doesn't fit either. Just checked :)

Thought I would share this as I put it up yesterday when Nintendo sent me a Wii U to review:

#136681 Microsoft Looking to Release 2 Versions of the NextBox

Posted by Eggplante! on 23 November 2012 - 05:42 AM in General Gaming

This could actually work out very well in Microsoft's favour.

A $149 next-gen Xbox for your living room that replaces your set-top box, plays Blu-Rays, has Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube, as well as plays some XBL Arcade games? It does make sense. Don't forget, Blu-Ray players are $100 standalone, so for another $50, you get games and all the aforementioned? Might be good!

#131812 White Charging cradle and stand for console and controller

Posted by Eggplante! on 17 November 2012 - 10:11 PM in Wii U Hardware

The only cradle and stand available are black, unfortunately. I think a white one would even look great with a black GamePad.
