#214352 Some of the old stuff I forgot about

Posted by Happy Monk on 01 June 2013 - 02:58 PM in General Gaming

I really hope they release PES for the Wii U, I really enjoy 2009 on the Wii and 2012 on the 3DS. What I really want them to do though is bring back Champion's Road mode from the Wii versions, a very fun and simple alternative to Master League in which you received new players by Gatcha balls and they leveled up, increasing their stats... man I pumped serious hours into that mode alone.

#213842 COD Ghosts Outed By E3Insider

Posted by Happy Monk on 31 May 2013 - 11:37 AM in Wii U Games and Software

The "new engine" for Ghosts is the same engine, with some better plugins.  Also, it was confirmed that Naughty Dog will be using the same engine for PS4 development that they did for PS3 development because what they got out of those engines was "good enough"

At any rate, Wii U would get the enhanced engine.

But hasn't Nintendo used pretty much the same engine since Mario 64? I know Shin'en has used the same engine since their DS games, just adding new features when they need new features.

Essentially, it doesn't matter if a game is using a new engine, just how it uses the engine.

The Wii U will get the enhanced engine. I agree.

#212192 Idea for Nintendo + Retro

Posted by Happy Monk on 28 May 2013 - 06:24 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Now correct me if I'm wrong but I swear reading somewhere that Retro had been working on the Wii U dev kit since 2008

I cannot say either way... I do not know.

That'll do it.

#212149 Idea for Nintendo + Retro

Posted by Happy Monk on 28 May 2013 - 03:43 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Retro's last full game was Donkey Kong Country Returns (which came out in 2010) And they co-developed Mario Kart 7 which came out at the end of 2011, I don't think they have been working on this new Wii U game for very long... Probably 2 years at the most.

That's a DS, not a 3DS.

Indeed. Somebody, quickly find a 3DS one! I can't because I'm too... Important.

#211775 Who hates this show?

Is it another Family Guy wannabe? I do not like those shows at all (Family Guy included).

#211769 Is the wii u THAT underpowered?

Posted by Happy Monk on 27 May 2013 - 10:14 AM in Wii U Hardware

Like many have said before:

Wii U: PS2

Xbox One: Gamecube

PS4: Xbox

The Wii U will look similar enough, but the differences will be obvious. The Wii U should be able to keep up to some extent, just in lower resolution or less impressive textures etc...

The sales should be like that also!

In answer to MorbidGod, that's why I said very slightly under par (digital foundry's video showed a slightly lower framerate, but it is barely noticeable).

#211766 Is the wii u THAT underpowered?

Posted by Happy Monk on 27 May 2013 - 10:05 AM in Wii U Hardware

Let's just stop talking until after June 11th. But make no mistake ALL of the excuses are out the door then. If we see graphics that are on par with the best of this gen then IMO its on the same level as ps360 and lots of people were right. If itshows graphics that melt our eyes and are clearly above ps360 then Nintendo look like geniuses again and we might have gamecube part 2 on our hands. I'm at a toss up I don't know what this console can do graphically or how powerful it truly is.. But make no mistake I'm holding people like 3dude accountable.

You will not see Wii U games that look mind-blowingly impressive next to 360 and PS3 games, just like you will not see Xbox One or PS4 games to the same effect. The Wii U is more powerful than the 360 and PS3, but less powerful than their successors.

Not linked to your quote (just the first paragraph is). Finger pointing to launch games that underperform compared to their PS/360 counterparts is not going to make you look or sound clever, quite the opposite. It should be simple enough. Launch games never account for the console's power, how many times do people need to refer to 360 launch games compared to 360 games now. Take a game like Assassin's Creed 3 for example. it has been shown that the Wii U version runs at a slightly more erratic framerate but pretty much looks identical to the other two versions. This is a game that would've been ported from different architecture in around six months, which is very fast for game development, for the game to look visually on par and run slightly under par (see-very slightly) is very impressive. It was Iwata who said Assassin's Creed 3 is only utilising around 50% of the Wii U's hardware. I think that says it all doesn't it?

#211750 RE-HYPING E3

Posted by Happy Monk on 27 May 2013 - 09:41 AM in Wii U Games and Software

All it needs is Miyamoto dressed as a Nintendo character.

#211748 De-Hyping E3

Posted by Happy Monk on 27 May 2013 - 09:38 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I never go into any Nintendo Direct or anything with too much in mind, it always ruins what they do show if I'm over hyped.

#211332 What do Achievments/Trophies matter to you?

Posted by Happy Monk on 26 May 2013 - 01:21 AM in General Gaming

Achievements don't really matter to me at all, sure they can add some reason for replaying, but the game itself should be able to bring you back to it.

I also don't like achievements as they can spoil the game for me by simply telling me what levels there are and they can give an indication of how the long the game is going to be, achievements should be used for creative things, not simply finishing the level. I do like the achievements in Worms Reloaded for that reason.

#211329 Wii U Wishlist

Posted by Happy Monk on 26 May 2013 - 01:17 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Star Fox, a true sequel to Lylat Wars.

A new Kirby game, don't care what it's like, Kirby can get away with anything.

F-Zero.

A true sequel to Dragonball Z Budokai Tenka'ichi 3 would be stellar.

Everything else is optional.

#211324 Is the wii u THAT underpowered?

Posted by Happy Monk on 26 May 2013 - 12:32 AM in Wii U Hardware

On the last two pictures, are you sure it's not just that the first of the two is from a CGI trailer, and the second is in-game? as the camera doesn't really need to get close to the characters, the models do not need to be incredibly detailed. Knack looks good and oddly ugly at the same time, as in most of the screentshots look good, but one looks ugly.

Here's the key difference: Wonderful 101 is absolutely brimming with character, Knack is not. As for graphics, Knack probably looks more impressive, but Wonderful 101 looks nicer and has a much more fun and preferable art style.

#211241 Shinen are spot on with the hardware.

Posted by Happy Monk on 25 May 2013 - 03:39 PM in Wii U Hardware

I've only ever played one Shin'en game: Nano Assualt Neo. It's awesome, but too short. Despite this, Shin'en is one of my favourite developers, something about them just rings, 'we like making games'. Not many other companies give off the same feeling, (Nintendo does, as does SEGA if you've played Sonic Colours).

#211197 Vote for Retro's new game

Posted by Happy Monk on 25 May 2013 - 10:43 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I really really want a new Star Fox. But honestly, I think it could be Metroid again.

#211129 Should Nintendo stop making Mario games?

Posted by Happy Monk on 25 May 2013 - 06:34 AM in General Gaming

Should Mario retire? What kind of a silly question is that?

Not only does Mario fund Nintendo, each one is fun and unique in different ways. The New Super Mario series is purposely made to be simple and straight up 2D Mario platforming, the New! series really helps fill the time between the 3D adventures everybody loves so much and are every part as much in the 'main' series of games as any other one - not including spin-offs.

Nintendo has said they want to release one New! Super Mario Bros on every console they make, as a safe and secure benchmark game that will sell, yet they still provide fun, and lots of it.

All in all, Mario is Nintendo.

#211120 Wii U version of RE: Revelations "Visibly Less refine than PS360"

The Wii U seems to have a variety of strange and contradictory ports...

Pretty cool idea. Although my Miiverse artwork is pretty shoddy.

#210351 Why I'm happy with Nintendo

Posted by Happy Monk on 23 May 2013 - 06:16 AM in General Gaming

I have never regretted my choice to own a Wii U, never regretted only owning a Wii, or only a Gamecube, or only an N64. I have only ever owned Nintendo consoles, and played some games on the PC. I don't want the exclusives the other consoles have (Halo, Gears and God of War, Forza Motorsport etc... the only one I have ever wanted to play at considerable length is Metal Gear Solid), and power is neither here nor there for me.

Nintendo is where all my memories and nostalgia come from, and it is where they will stay and develop.

The Xbox One and PS4 will have a hard time selling due to the high price points they will surely have, especially when by Christmas, the Wii U will already have a decent enough install base and big first and third party games. The Wii U is looking like the better value for money, people want value for money these days.

#210346 Tvii Europe

Posted by Happy Monk on 23 May 2013 - 06:05 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I don't even know what TVii is?

I have no idea what we're missing.

We also have radio :P.

#210143 No Hate - But People Are Taking Another Look @ Wii U

Posted by Happy Monk on 22 May 2013 - 02:16 PM in Wii U Games and Software

While Mircosoft at the moment is under water right now for stupid decisions (No backwards compatibility, no used-game support, focusing on the casual market, online requirement) they shouldn't be counted out yet. Since what Microsoft showed us was a glimpse of what they have in-store for at the E3 event, we need to have higher expectations.   The Wii U isn't doing so hot right now either, it sold at least 6,000 (probably more) units in Japan last week, a drought of games, and arguably the worst launch in recent memory for a home console. Microsoft's direction with the Xbox One is completely different from the 360's approach, now they are trying to reach out to the casual gamer more than they did before. I have an idea of what Microsoft has planned for E3, and if it's isn't like what I hope, then this system is doomed to fail miserably while 360 users migrated to the the Wii U and PS4.

Wait until their conference happens, that conclude with your decision, you make yourself like utterly foolish and ridiculous by rushing to a conclusion.

The Wii U actually had a rather successful launch, second only to the Wii's. It's since Christmas ended it hasn't been selling... Immediate post launch is where it's falling down.

#210110 No Hate - But People Are Taking Another Look @ Wii U

People really are just waiting for the Wii U to pick up some awesome first party games. And maybe for it to go cheaper.

#210108 PC Version of FIFA 2014 Will Not Use Ignite Engine

Posted by Happy Monk on 22 May 2013 - 12:02 PM in General Gaming

A stupid choice that will annoy people. That's EA for you!

#209020 Why EA's non-support of the Wii U will draw in third parties

Posted by Happy Monk on 20 May 2013 - 05:22 AM in Wii U Games and Software

All it means is that the only Football game available on the Wii U is (hopefully) Pro Evolution Soccer, and the only shooting game is Call of Duty, Konami and Activision will have no serious competition for their games on the Wii U.

I really hope EA come back though, despite how much I hate them at the moment, I like FIFA (well, the World Cup games).
