What I usually wind up doing when I get a game is play it, and usually only it, until I've wrung every last ounce of life out of it. Some don't take near as long as others, some games can take me up to 40ish hours or more. MGS3 was a 13-15ish hour platinum, but I skipped a ton of the cutscenes due to having played the crap out of the game on the PS2.
