Guess that means no more renting games from gamefly or redbox or buying used games. With different places charging different prices for games who's price do they use as the retail price they would charge to activate the game?

I haven't watched the reveal yet, but have read a lot. What I know .. it's ugly. That isn't the big deal breaker. Pay extra for used games? Must install video games? Why not just have a PC?

PS4 and Wii U for me.

And about the EA Deal ... Why WOULDN'T EA like the Xbox One? No used games, or pay extra at least, means more money for them. They WANT the Xbox One to do well, and they are going to bet on it.

Hopefully that works for them, I don't want to see people loose their jobs.

For me it's the idea that they want it to be your one source for entertainment, and that's just not how I roll. Im with you, no Microsoft for me for another gen

I wonder what the xbox one cases will look like i think if they keep the curent one it will look stupid i wouldnt mind the wii u case style except green and where it says wii u it says xbox, has anyone also noticed xbox has started using a darker shade of green

I've watched some of the reveal, 16 min's on Spike and I almost fell asleep. Sure, I am tired (lol) but honestly it's not impressive. Sure, a few features are cool. My dad would love Xbox Instant, and many older people would. How many times do Inputs make life harder? Why can't you just say "Xbox, TV." And it's there.

But the focus is away from games I think, and with three OS's, that is kind of proving that point. More resources to do something one OS can do just as well. Microsoft, a leader in the OS world, should know that.

So the Xbox 1 isn't backwards compatible with the 360 because they use different architectures, yet the 360 had a different architecture than the original Xbox but it was still backwards compatible. This was due to the 360 having an original xbox emulator. So why don't they do that with the Xbox 1? I know it won't be able to grunt it like the launch PS3's did with PS2 and PS1 games, but surely it can emulate it.

Not allowing your friends to borrow your games but pay a fee.

 

You have a time limit of 24 hours to get connected and if you don't your cable box screws you over.

 

The exclusives for the thing are mostly going to be generic and TV based like that new game they showed off.

oh no man, not even close, its not powerful enough to emulate 360. Its nowhere remotely close to the jump we had with ps2-ps3.

Hell, cpu flop power in ps4/xbone is only on par with 360 xenon (or a little worse assuming peak theoretical) and gets destroyed by ps3's cell.... and thats spread over 8 cores (you lose some real world performance with each added core, so you cant just multiply the flops of one core times the number of cores)

ok. I'm just disappointed with their decision about backwards compatiblity. I know that it wasn't as big of a jump, but I was hoping it could happen. How much more powerful does it need to be to be able to emulate it properly?

The flop throughput and lowered clock speed is absolutely davastating to emulation. You need to be considerably more powerful in every facet to emulate between different architectures.... not to mention have a great compiler.

Now, you can rewrite the games for the new architecture... but bc is out of the question due to slower cpu clock speeds and lower flop throughput than last gen systems.

PS4/One are gpu centric designs, 360/ps3 were cpu centric.

However, sony appears to be trying some cloud based system gaiken to supposedly accomplish bc. Maybe one will show something with that?
