(This is my first post, so forgive me if I mess up)

 

Hi,

I have recently got my wii u, and it works fine with my (standard def) TV. But, I would like to hook it up to my HD monitor via HDMI, but since it doesn't have speakers built in, is there any way that I can get audio from external speakers? Thanks for any help.

Some monitors allow component input via VGA. You may have a menu option to change from RGB to component on your VGA input. You could then use a standard wii component video cable with the 3 video connectors going to a component to VGA cable (very cheap) and run the audio to an amplified speaker system.

 

Annoyingly the wii u only allows one output socket to be used at a time. So you can't have analogue audio with digital video. An earlier firmware enabled wii sound over analogue and video over hdmi but a later firmware removed this.

Wow that seems like a really stupid move on Nintys part, they should add that back in so people could use a separate amplifier system.

I can't remember if the Xbox 360 did this. I remember the original av cables were designed to physically block the hdmi port.
