I was thinking about how the Wii U was first shown, with the commercial clips showing hipsters playing Zombie U and non-specific action figure and all that. I mean, they really gave the impression that this was a really "cool" console, with some humour, distance and self-irony thrown in. Sofisticated, if you will. It felt they were trying to give the impression this was a console for adults, "not only for kids and teenagers like the other consoles from Sony and MS". Now, everything they show, in Nintendo Directs and commercials, is very bland. It's really nothing special - they just show the games and apart from the exclusive titles, it could really be about any console. So... what happened? Did they realise the grown up hipsters is a too small market for a video game console, or did they run out of money to pay the hip advertising company?
Wii U marketing change (non-specific action-figure etc.)

Nintendo was like
It feels like a perfect night to dress up like hipsters
And make fun of our exes, uh uh uh uh
It feels like a perfect night for breakfast at midnight
To fall in love with strangers uh uh uh uh
Yeaaaah
Nintendo listening to too much T-Swizzle

I'm really starting to think Nintendo is never going to advertise more, WHAT THE HELL HAVE THEY BEEN DOING. They are sitting on piles of money, they want to promote their console, release some ads on tv and any platform you can find. It doesn't take way too long to whip up a ad, they have had no excuse for the lack of advertisement.
Oh non specific action figure, how i have missed you.

The problem is, the people who watch those are already interested in the system. They have to tide other people over.Nintendo directs are direct and to the point. Unfiltered showings of games, no bs to try and filter or control the perception of the product before you can even judge for yourself (games media).

I was once known here as KillerMario, but since I really like Banjo-Kazooie, I changed my display name to show them my respect

Still incorrect, Wii U ads were on British TV as well. I was streaming XFactor on my computer and saw one.

I watched XFactor and never saw the advertisement.
So because you never saw any doesn't mean there weren't any TV ads and yes, there were ads for Wii U during commercials for XF.

Atleast let people learn what a Wii U is. Because only gamers know.

Has anyone seen their new ads. OMG they are terrible! It's like they are trying to sell their system to 8 year olds. For crying out loud When you compare the "We would like to play ads" next to them it make the Wii ads look like AC/DC compared to Justin Bieber! Rant over...

I think Nintendo has completly forgotten about advertisments and marketing, I watch quite a lot of TV and I'm still yet to see an advert for Wii U since it released, I saw one about a week before it launched.

I think Nintendo doesn't want to push the Wii U since there are no games on it yet, so they're holding back I guess? That's the only reason I can think of.

Can you find a link to the commercials? I have yet to see them since I don't' watch TV. Do you see them often?

It wouldn't have been hard to advertise the games at all, ZombiU, Nintendo Land and so on would be pretty easy to advertise.
