I just reserved my spot for a free upgrade to Windows 10. Are any of you gonna get it? Thoughts about Windows 10? They skipped Nine

 

I would like to give it a try, it looks nicer to me. Some people decided to not upgrate because it will remove Media Center, Hearts and Solitaire (if you're on Windows 7), and Windows 7 Gadgets.

Who knows, maybe Mircrosoft is planning some shanky tricks on us!

I'm planning on upgrading. Already reserved my spot. I don't really use the features that might be removed, so it's fine.

 

I've used Windows 8 on other computers and I've really liked it, so I'm sure 10 will be just as good.

I'm gonna upgrade. I went right from 7 to 8... was happy to get to 8.1 though. I mostly stayed in desktop mode anyways.

Win7 and Upgrading.  I realize Phantasy Star Online 2 and some other stuff may not work at first. I just hope they figure that out.

I reserved because I'm on Windows 8.1 and while it is nice it is... incomplete. Also you can reinstall hearts and solitare if you wish, either the metro version or the Windows 7 version, but the Windows 7 version is unofficial.

I think the reservation period is only one year. You get to keep the upgrade forever

When WIndows 8 came out you could upgrade eligible computers for only $60 or so for the first 6 months, then it jumped up to full price.

 

This is the same idea except it's a 100% discount for 12 months, and the eligible computer pool is vastly expanded.

I'll get the free upgrade at some point but I'm not planning to be a launch user, I'll let everyone else test out windows 10 and then I'll jump in haha,

i'll upgrade a few months after some bugs have been fixed on it and the key software that I use works on 10 (though im not worried about that since I'm sure i can get windows 7 software to easily work on windows 10)

WTF are you talking about. You just get a free OS. That's it. There are no micro transactions. They are doing this to prevent situations of people still using Windows XP when Windows 7 and 8 released. They just changed it up for the better so people are not stuck using old versions of Windows. They want to break away from the trend where more people get a new OS when they buy a new PC. Not that they can't go buy the OS people just generally only update windows by getting a new PC.

They are pretty much FORCED into trying new schemes.

Theire hardware business is a failure and their sofware is being eaten up by Google, Apple, and others, who make competing software for free, due to their business models roviding alternate revenue streams.

The removal of basic features that can be added back in...

Nobody likes that and people would in fact ratther PAY up front for the finished product.
