I find it hilarious that Nintendo confirmed the black Wii U/controller without even speaking a word about it.

Don't forget e3 2005 or 2006 where they "confirmed" many other colours of the Wii, yet only White was launched.
Still, I expect white and black for Wii U.
White for casuals, black for hardcores.

Yeah, I remember this.
But now I fully expect Nintendo to launch it in black.

It looks like fingerprints will be easily noticeable, so I guess you just wouldn't want to touch that part of the Game Pad.

The screen seems a lot smaller.

It's not.

it's exactly the same size. Iwata also mentions the size. 6.2". That number has not changed.

What happened is more "padding" was added to the sides of the controller to aid comfort and to allow for more ergonomic button/analog stick layout.

This added bulk on the sides has given the illusion of a smaller screen. Look at the pic with them side by side and eliminate the exterior. Just look at the screen. It is exactly the same size.
