I shower you with coconut cream pies.

There was a server-wide DDoS attack today. I've been monitoring it all morning long, but it appears to have subsided now. I deployed what protection I could, but there's little that can really be done about such attacks effectively short of moving to a DDoS-protected network - and that's simply not possible from a financial perspective.

go to your start menu
in run or search type
cmd
then type
tracert thewiiu.com
into it.

And wait for it to finish.
Paste the results.

I was once known here as KillerMario, but since I really like Banjo-Kazooie, I changed my display name to show them my respect :)

Any chance we could be moved?

Almost too peaceful...You guys are obviously plotting something.

This statement is false. The previous statement is true.

RIP in peace Nintendo.

Actually, it was the MLP Forums that received the DDOS attack. Since the MLP Forums run on the same server as these forums, we were technically attacked by whoever attacked the MLP Forums. I bet Pony/Brony haters had something to do with this.

Ah, well that's more understandable.

Probably should use a different server to that of the MLP forums...

With the advent of the show's new season, we should probably expect more attacks. Also, with the advent of the WiiU, we will expect more members on this site...

Not a good situation to be in. Hopefully the DDOS will tide over within a day or two. Imagine the lag/load times if there was so much traffic, added on to the DDOS attack...... Hopefully things will work out though.

The only solution is to close the MLP forums.

It's for the best.

Neither MLP Forums nor TheWiiU.com is even near the ballpark of being profitable enough to justify separate hosting, or being placed on a DDoS-protected network. The dedicated box they currently share is already expensive enough as it is, and is powerful enough to absorb smaller attacks to some degree without going down completely. When it's not under attack (which, let's be honest, is almost all the time - attacks don't happen all that often), it's an incredibly fast server that can take thousands of users simultaneously.

DDoS attacks can happen to anyone; and considering how many Nintendo haters are out there, I would not rule out the possibility of a direct attack on TheWiiU.com at some point in the future. Separating the sites wouldn't do anything to make us DDoS-proof.

That's understandable. I hear you're busy with college anyway. So spend all your money on your future!

Hopefully the problem is quickly eradicated because the load time for the webpage is almost unbearable, I wish haters would stick to themselves and not attack sites like this one afterall they're wasting their own time in the process, but any ways thanks for the update on the situation

I doubt anyone would attack a nintendo forum.
Everyone hates bronies though, so it's a risk to the successfulness of this forum to have us near them.
