#303813 Super Smash Bros. 4 Discussion Thread

Posted by tboss on 23 November 2014 - 10:17 PM

Little Mac has ruined the entire game for me. Online is a joke when everyone is just spamming Little Mac. I'm incredibly disappointed that Nintendo even allowed a character like this to exist. Every other character is fine but Little Mac is the most broken character in the game and playing vs him all day is boring. Oh well- guess I'll just play some offline with friends and move onto a different game for online fun.

how? Little mac is not a good character, though he is the easiest to pick up and do decent with.

most straightforward advice would be to try and bait him to the ledge, and try to hit him off or grab and throw him off. also being good at shielding also helps against him.  Against macs that are more defencive, then simply getting him in the air and juggling works well. Once they are offstage, they only have 2 options, both of which suck, if you got a character with good recovery, you could go out and end him once he is off stage. He can also be gimped while off stage. when he is simply in the air, his options are: dodge, sideB, and counter.  Juggling is fairly easily depending on your character, and you can get a fair amount. If the mac you are playing airdodge/counters alot, then you need to bait it out more, if he does this a little before he hits the ground, you have a free window to immediately send him back into the air.

When he is on the ground, the only reliable way through is attacks is dodging/shielding, then following up, usually with a grab. when you are attacking, be careful of super armor, they can through out smashes with little risk of you stopping them.

Well there's kind of general stuff I'm wondering about that isn't character specific. Basic stuff. What in your opinion is the best way handle these situations...?

Scenario 1: Every time you are coming down from being smashed upwards your opponent always gets right under you and keeps smashing up or jump attacks upward at you until you K.O. If you can't land out of the way is there a better way to come down on your opponent? I try to air-dodge as they jump attack upwards at me but after the dodge I think I'm left defenseless for a second and upon landing they knock me away again anyway making the air-dodge in that scenario pretty much useless (it seems). On the other hand, if I come down attacking 9/10 times my opponent's upward attack seems to connect first (or maybe just eats through my attack).

Scenario 2: Your opponent is hanging on the ledge in front of you. What's your next move?

Scenario 3: Same as scenario 2 but the roles are reversed. You're on the ledge and your opponent is in front of you. What's your next move?

the answer to all 3 of those scenarios are fairly character specific.  so for general hints:

scenario 1: is your opponent consistent in which style of attack he uses. If so, you can easily counter/dodge/juke/ ect. fast falling makes it harder for him to time, landing moves to get to the ground also help, unless you are fighting a good opponent.  You will also be often forced to use a defensive move on the way down, which one depends on your character. Also the way he will attack you on your decent varies by character, some will attempt to jump beside you and forward/back air you instead for example. forward/back/neutral/down airs can be used to counter, again which depends on your character.   Another solution is to stay off the stage and attempt to recover from the left/right. This sometimes works well, but can also make recoveries tougher, depending on the matchup.

scenario 2/3: its usually a bad idea to stand right on top of him, so dont do it unless you plan on using a attack that will knock him off the ledge. You can stand back and attempt to punish whatever recover technique he attempts. The spacing for this is again, character specific. Also be aware of projectiles and methods to cover horozontal distance, like fox's side B and luigi's side B. Some good players will just drop, jump, re-grabe or attack. Be Careful of jumping back on as this may be the easiest to punish to spikes and counter attacks, works best if you have good airs to respond with. the drop and jump allows you to do varies attacks from right above the height of the ledge, and also increases your options, including re-grabbing. Also look at your enemies possition, a general hint is: right above you, default attack, some distance: use any but be careful, far: jump, chances are he will try to gimp with ranged attacks.

Most important, learn from experience, and get a main.

#300055 LTTP: Metroid Prime

Posted by tboss on 09 October 2014 - 09:09 AM

echoes is harder. Echoes also improves of many of the aspects of prime 1, such as boss's, but also has more prominent flaws/annoyances than prime 1.

prime 2 is definitely worth a playthrough, though expect it to be roughly 50% longer than your prime 1 playthrough. You may also want internet support if you can't figure something out, but going through with scan+other visors can help.  This game is definitely worth playing. Has the most alien environments compared to the other games, but they go from dull and boring to some of the best in ever.

Prime 3 on the other hand is a noticeable step down in from prime 1 and 2. favoring more streamlined AAA cinematics and more linear storyline.  The game is still good, but not worth a replay, challenge runs, hard mode runs like the first 2 are.

Go through Echoes next. I think Trilogy version is easier too. I have a copy of Prime, and I got into it, but I think I screwed myself over at the Space Pirate Mines. I think I just don't have enough energy tanks, but there's no way I'm backtracking that far. Eventually I'll start a new play through.

you can backtrack to anywhere you have been before in the game.

also if i remember right, if you collect all except the a few very far out of the way, you should have close to 10 energy tanks. The section is supposed to challenge you regardless, i sometimes have issues if i haven't played in long enough of a time.

#289330 Nintendo Digital Event discussion

Nintendo launches enough to take E3, and they arnt even done yet.

Legand of zelda looks great this time around. nailed a mix of a animated and realistic artstyle. also OPEN WORLD ZELDA game.

splatoon looks amazing. When everyone is making generic shooters, Nintendo manages to mix it up to a whole new level. The only complaint i can see for it is artstyle from the dudebros, and people who thought it was sunshine 2 at first.

smash mii characters. Custom smash charaters, combing smashbros and Pokemon.  Expecting standered smash U, amibo smash U, and official tournie custom (rebalanced smash) smash U tournaments.

Starfox!!!! not as great as metroid but still, it is starfox, It will be great

Nintendo is now supporting devils 3rd.

Nintnedo 3rd party support seems to be picking up under supported games that they like, and make them second party.

X finally got a NAME.

beyo2 comes with beyo1

mario party 10 lets you play as bowser

And Ninty is still droping bombs.

#288778 The Legend of Zelda: For Wii U Discussion Thread 2015

Posted by tboss on 08 June 2014 - 06:15 PM

Got a feeling nintendo will upset a lot of people with this reveal

yes they will.

i just hope the game has a at least a decent artstyle, and they get the major aspects of the game right.

i also expect zelda to alternate between the 'realistic' and 'cartoon' artstyle.

LOL Does that really work? :)

if you have a large enough mirror, and position your head over your players kart.

a large TV and mirror are strongly recamended though. also minimal distance between the screen and mirror.

#285292 Zelda U image leaked?

Link looks like the tech-demo version to me, copy-paste. , i wouldn't make a big deal about a longer heart bar, if ninty is making the game as big as they say, room for more hearts may be necessary.   Overall though, i think BS

#283961 First MK8 Review

Posted by tboss on 05 May 2014 - 05:47 PM

30 playable characters seems off, unless they've already spoiled every character in the game, there's probably more

that means 5 babies, 7 kooperlings and no diddy kong, Bowser Jr or boo. That would make me sad.

the current roster is 5x6 so there is 30 players. This MK has a terrable roaster though...

We should rarely see more than 2 blue shells in a online game, anything more is to much.

Single player should also be capped. multyplayer should have a cap on normal, if there is a frantic or similar setting then it shouldnt be capped.

i dont have a issue witht he blueshell but i do have a issue with its frequency

Or if they just gave the option for skilled and strategic players to counter the blue shell....

Like an item, that, if used a certain way, could instead of knocking out players, could be used to avoid being hit by blue shells....

If only that was a thing....

I doubt you will commonly see this in first place. my best guess is getting it in 2nd/3rd then passing into 1st.
