You should call Nintendo's support number. If you're in the US it's 800-255-3700. It's possible they may be able to repair it, or you could just buy another console. The refurbished consoles through Nintendo's store are a very good deal.
Your downloaded games are not lost forever. They are associated with your NNID, which can be transferred to another console with Nintendo Support's help.

I much prefer the white consoles since they don't smudge as easily. I'd get this in a heartbeat if I didn't own a Wii U already

Yeap no sale here either, i have stopped all digital purchese on the Wii-U on anything above £10 now, no point anymore spending £40 on digital games when the system is already winding down.
I see your point, but there's a good chance that NX will be compatible with Wii U games, including digital ones.

NoA just tweeted this:
We know you are eager to hear more about Devil’s Third. We are excited to bring the game to Wii U and will have more to share soon.

Poor single player campaign that lasts 6-7 hours that includes fun boss battles keeps getting thrown under the rug.
I'm probably the only one who bought it primarily for the single player campaign

I just got a Seagate 1.5TB for $50 and a y-cable from Amazon for like $5. It's a HUGE improvement convenience-wise over my old 320 GB that was the size of a brick and needed to be plugged into the wall. With any of these make sure you get the y-cable.
