So you believe there is no games then you list them off???

I didn't say I believe there are no games, just that there is a notion that there aren't any games for the Wii U

I'm very pleased with the amount of big titles announced. Once the advertising is rolled out the Wii U could be right back in the game.

#202445 WHY DID YOU BUY THE WII U

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 01 May 2013 - 10:47 AM

The Off-screen play was a big factor. I had a Wii but wanted to trade it in while it was still worth something and wanted to experience owning a console from the day of release. I've not regretted it all. Being able to play VC games off screen has been great.

The slow pace off new games hasn't bothered me as I had a few Wii games left to complete as well enjoying some of the exclusive and ported titles. I don't own any other consoles so ported titles having already been out didn't effect me, just a chance to check out what the fuss was all about.

It reminds me of gaming on the Megadrive as a kid when I unable to afford new games, it's been nice to really get into a game rather than constantly half completing titles.

#194027 NFC, Travel cards

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 13 April 2013 - 07:05 AM

Lots of Transports System use NFC technology instead of tickets. This includes London Transport and is rolling out across the UK rail system as well many other major cities and transport networks.

It'd be kinda of cool if you could use the NFC in the Wii U gamepad to check your balance and top up your card.

#188107 Wii U won't be getting Unreal Engine 4

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 30 March 2013 - 04:36 AM

It seems like every piece of bad news is treated like it alone will bring down Nintendo. The 360 survived the ring of death, how much worse can it get than a massive fail rate.

It seem to me that these constant panic are based of a few misconceptions.

a) The next gen console race has begun.

B) Nintendo will be competing on the same basis

c) Nintendo will collapse if Wii U doesn't sell massive amount in the first twelve months.

The reality is that Microsoft haven't even announced their console and the PS4 isn't due till Xmas and even after that it'll take time for them develop next gen games. Nintendo have a huge headstart to settle in, build an installed base, lower manufacturing costs, develop the OS, build a software library and of course learn who to best utilise the hardware.

That said it won't be competing in exactly the same way just like with the Wii it'll find it's own niche. In twelve month time if it still isn't selling well, well they still have the successful 3DS and plenty of Yen in the bank to bail them out!

#185883 Mature gaming?

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 24 March 2013 - 12:37 PM

I can't really think of many games that are truly mature and deal with more complex issues, that would appeal to a 34-year old like me. Most games feel like they are made to appeal to 12-year-olds or younger PLUS us old-timers. A lot of them appeal to me too, of course, but not in a "mature" way.

I'm 32 and that is so very true.

Sadly I suspect this might be a reflection of not just the audience but the people designing these games.

Video games are a fairly new genre with a similar culture to comic books. It wasn't until Alan Moore etc that that comics grew up.

#185825 Mature gaming?

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 24 March 2013 - 09:47 AM

Mature games is one of those terms that needs to be redefined. The rating on the box rarely has anything to due to mental/emotional maturity.

If anything the opposite is true. The more swearing & ridiculous violence the younger it's target audience.

Playing 18-rated Call Of Duty with it's ridiculously gravelly voices and rubbish macho banters it's the kind of thing would have appealed to me when I was twelve. Then I go online and hear kids being told that they can have one more go and then it's bed time. Mature, really?

It takes a person secure in their maturity to unashamedly enjoy a Mario game, accepting the cuteness and appreciating the amazing game mechanics.

Ultimately the idea of the Nintendo as a kids company is misplaced as titles like Mario and Zelda tend to attract mature gamers who want well designed classics rather than 3rd rate actions films knock-offs.

Both Mario Galaxy and Assassins Creed can be considered mature games.

#185517 iwata seriously needs to step down

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 23 March 2013 - 06:05 AM

Well if he is a paid to make Nintendo look bad it isn't working on me!

The more people moan the more I'm reminded how good the Wii U is. For ever moaning post I'll just post two positive ones.

What Sony and Xbox fans think are negatives are positives to me so Wii U bashing falls on deaf ears.

#183537 Wii U sells 4 times worse than PS3 and Xbox

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 17 March 2013 - 04:48 AM

3 months to e3.

3 months to Nintendo giving people some reasons to buy the console.

Really is something that it's not out-selling 6 year old crap, you'd think everyone who wanted one of those would already have them.

I suspect they is an expectation the PS4/Xbox720 will be stupidly expensive and you might as well wait a few years as the current Gen system are still putting out lots of games. I wonder how many of those sales are replacements for faulty consoles!

The Wii U is defiantly a HUGE upgrade from the Wii, The PS4 just looks like a less annoying PS3. We don't even have a date for the next Xbox.

Once all the dates/specs/prices are known for the Next gen I imagine the current gen sales will drop off as people decided to hold out.

#177068 What new nintendo IP do you want to see

Mario Paintball. Non lethal FPS for all ages!

Shoot Toad in the face. It would sell Millions.

#175436 The Wii U and Sega

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 24 February 2013 - 09:10 AM

Nintendo should just do it already and buy Sega, they know they want to, and I think most of us can agree that it would be a good move...

Now there's a thought! I'd love to see Nintendo tighten up on Sega's habit of releasing sloppy Sonic games. I'd love to see Sega (exclusively) producing curveball titles for nintendo.

Sonic, The 2K titles, Virtua Fighter and others.

#174868 How do you think Nintendo could advertise better?

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 23 February 2013 - 10:25 AM

Go back to the clear, instructive style of the Wii Ads:

Scene 1) Teenage boy playing game in lounge, Dad and sister come in to watch football, he switches to Offscreen play they watch the match. Everyones happy. U PLAY ON

Scene 2) Family all play Nintendoland in family at the same time. Mum on controller is being chased by family brought together by mario chase. U PLAY TOGTHER

Scene3) Dad alone plays Zombi U (showing off mature games). U PLAY

Wii, U, All, Play. (or some such)

throw in celeb families and ideal lifestyle stuff and and funny sound at the start that signels it's a Wii U add and their off.

#173062 Are things really this dire?

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 19 February 2013 - 12:08 PM

I think it's fair to say that the Wii U future is unclear, people are concerned about sales, the price, the lack of AAA titles and 3rd party support.

When you really care about something, Nintendo, a football club, a band, it can be pretty hard standing on the sidelines watching them fail. It's that sense of powerlessness as they make mistakes that bugs me.

So I figured I'd come up with a few positive things I can do to ensure Nintendo don't go all Sega on us.

1) Word of Mouth: Keep telling people about the Wii U, (Explaining it's more than a gamepad) Tweet and Facebook about it. F-Zero bargain offer comes out, I'm gonna tweet about it!

2) Contact TV-On Demand services. People have come to expect TV-on-Demand on their console. Here in the UK we have the hugely popular BBC iplayer for all the main consoles but not yet on I wii U. I will email them having a moan!

3) Get some mates round. The best way to understand the Wii U is to play so I better get a few beers in, get few friends to dust off their wiimotes and have an evening of asymmetrical play!

4) Stay Positive. There is a sense of self fulfilling prophecy about all of this. If we keep saying it's going to fail then whose going to buy one. Constructive criticism is one thing but I will avoid moaning moaning sake.

Anyway that's my way of thinking about all of this. Bring on F-Zero and Pikmin 3.
