#247682 Critics of The Wii U Are Way Off Base !

Posted by RETROBLAST on 23 September 2013 - 03:30 PM

I find it appalling that critics are bashing the Wii U! When you have critics stating that Nintendo does not even know how to deal with or what to do with their own Game Pad and cite Pikmin 3 as prime example of this, you know these people have no idea what they are talking about.

To begin with Pikmin 3 uses for the Game Pad are excellent. You can play using the Wiimote & Chuck to control your character while at the same time use the Game Pad as not only a map, but also to review your inventory of Fruit & Data Chips collected. In addition to that, you can have the characters move to point on the map by initiating it on the Game Pad, then watching them move there on the TV Screen. The Game Pad is also used to receive "In Game Transmissions" from other characters within the game itself. You also use the Game Pad to take in game photos by pointing at the TV, using the pad screen as a view finder, then snapping a pic and the posting that pic with a comment on Miiverse. You can also play the game entirely on the Game Pad without using a TV.

Critics point out how confusing it is ... one minute you use the Wiimote, then you have to put it down and pick up the Game Pad to continue .... Obviously, these critics are not real gamers and have no business reviewing anything even remotely related to video games at all.

I am the proud owner of a Wii U and I have never second guessed my decision to buy one. As with all Nintendo Systems, I wait until I hear of a game announcement for a game I really want, then I buy the system. For me, it was the footage of Super Mario World 3D that made me want a Wii U. I went to GameStop and tried out SMBU and that was the clincher ...I loved how it looked and played so I ordered my Wii U and have never looked back!

Having owned many video game home consoles dating back to the Colecovision TelStar Pong System, I can honestly say that the Nintendo Wii U is not only the best video game home console Nintendo has made, but is the best video game home console I have ever owned.

People don't like the Wii U because they have never played the Wii U and they are reading negative statements about it by uninformed critics or non gamer critics and they are basing their dislikes about the system on what those idiots have said and not on their own experiences with the system.

Why do I like the Wii U so much? For one thing, I love the controller. It feels great and it works great too. There is no lag, the touch screen on it is the perfect size, the Z buttons are perfectly placed, switching from analog stick to the D pad is smooth, the D pad offers tight control unlike many other D pads on other controllers, it has a headphone jack, its own volume button, you can use it to play console games without the use of the TV, and you can even video chat on it. My God, does it get any better than that?

Some people mock the Control Pad saying its only used for maps and item screens ... I personally do not care if its use goes beyond those two things ... Those two things alone are huge in my book ... and after using the pad in those ways, I would cringe if I had to pause a game go into an onscreen menu, and bring up a map. Its like having Air Conditioning, you don't know how much you need it until you have it and once you have it, you can't live without it!

The Control Pad & The System were made at the same time with each other in mind 100% They were a team from the get go and that has its advantages. Every Wii U owner owns a Game Pad, that means any game for the Wii U can provide its use without risk. Not every PS4 or XBox One owner will also own a PS Vita / Tablet, that means it is risky to develop for a second screen as a developer for those platforms ... that means, the best dual screen integration will occur on the Wii U.

I love the internet browser on the Wii U. If you have not really tried it, boot it up, you may find you love it as much as I do. Make sure the move around the analog sticks ..... you can scroll or zoom in and out with them. Hands down, the internet browser on the Wii U is the best internet browser on any game system to date and will more than likely be better than what is offered on the PS4 / XBox One ... simply because of the Wii U Game Pad.

I love the control options ... some say Nintendo has too many different types of controllers out there but in my opinion, that is one of the best features of the system. You can use the Wii U Game Pad, the Wiimote, the Chuck, the Classic, Classic Pro, and Wii U Pro Controllers with the system. The fact is, different games play better with different types of control input devices. Therefore, in many cases, you have a choice of what type of input device you want to use to play a game. The only type of controller the Wii U is missing is a paddle controller ... and I sure wish they would come out with one and a slew of great brick breaking / racing games to use with it.

Graphics are the icing on the cake ... Many people are saying that the PS4 / XBox One will blow away the graphics on the Wii U. For me, the graphics are icing on a cake ... if the inside of the cake is not that great, the icing may help but the cake is really not that great after all. Let me get a little deeper on this statement. I just got Puppeteer for the PS3 ... it looks great and even has an interesting game mechanic, the use of scissors, but the gameplay itself does not hold up, making it a not so great game. The icing (Graphics) helps the game be appealing but can not compensate for its lack of great gameplay. Now if you asked me, which game is better, Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES or Puppeteer, my answer would be SMB3, which has far inferior graphics but far superior gameplay. In my eyes, Nintendo is serving up the most tasty dish of all .... Tried & True, solid gameplay and gameplay mechanics along with the icing on the cake too .... New HD Graphics. I love Super Mario Wii U, it looks and plays great! And the beauty is, that was a release title, so future games are going to look even better!

I honestly think that people just say ... Nintendo is for kids ... have either never played a Mario Game or have not played one recently ... They are not only very fun, addictive, & graphically beautiful, but they are also very challenging if you want to find all the 3 special coins and secret exits too.

I feel sorry for people who will never play the Wii U, they will never know what they are missing ... and that is a damn shame in the world of gaming, it really is.

Deutsch LA, the creative agency on PlayStation in the U.S for the last five years, has joined Nintendo after being dropped by Sony for Bartle Bogle Hegarty in February. The creative agency will work on e-commerce efforts and create traditional ads for some of Nintendo’s high-profile games and will lead also lead the digital and social media marketing side of things. Nintendo previously considered five agencies before selecting Deutsch...

Nintendo seems to be stepping up in the advertising department.

#242461 Infinity Ward says the Wii U Version of COD Ghosts is not Current or Next-Gen

Posted by Socalmuscle on 28 August 2013 - 08:55 PM

Think of it like this: PS360 will be at Low Settings, Wii U will be at Medium, and PS4/Xbox 1 will be at High.

Not necessarily.

The Wii Us strengths play out differently.

For example, the texture resolution on Wii u will be just as good as ps4.

Geometry should be there too.

But Wii u will have to load more. And there can be more scripted ai activity at once on ps4 IF the developers really push that.

I think what is being referred to is the fact that the Wii u will be using its own engine. Not the x86 engine for pc and optimized for ps4/x1. Not the old clock cycle dependent engines on ps3/360. But a version of the engine meant to utilize the Wii u like it should.

This automatically means, it won't be a ps4 game. And it won't be a 360 game either.

But time will reveal what was meant by this. Looking forward to it.

If Nintendo can make the Wii u graphics look insane (do, mk8, 3d world, etc.), then third parties with giant dev teams can do even more with a dedicated Wii u engine designed to actually utilize the hardware's unique next gen design.

It's still treyarch though...
So ... ???

The blops2 port on U was visually slightly sharper than old gen consoles, but frame rate wasn't as good in areas. This was due to the fact that they ran old school code on the new design.

Either they still suck at porting to Wii u (highly unlikely), or they've been hard at work for the last year utilizing the Nintendo dev tools and are utilizing all cores of the CPU properly and opening the throttle some more on the gpu.

Ghosts looks pretty impressive from the pc footage. Hopefully, they really go for it with the Wii u version and EARN sales.

#237810 Who buys a Nintendo console for third party multiplats, anyways?

Posted by Rickhunter7 on 08 August 2013 - 08:56 AM

My humble opinion on the matter:

First, I chose a Nintendo console before others because I care about some Nintendo IPs more than any others: I LOVE Zelda, I think that Metroid is much better than most FPSs.

Second, I do care about multi platform coming to the WiiU, you see, back in the days when I had a Wii I would always wish I could try out popular multi platform games such as Bayonetta, GTA, COD, etc. but it wasn't possible and it made me feel bad. Now thanks to the Wii U being powerful enough it seems we will be able to enjoy such multi platforms.

#242512 wii u ambassador program

Posted by GAMER1984 on 29 August 2013 - 01:13 AM

C'mon people you saw this coming didn't you? There was no way it would hold up with other next gen consoles at that price. Right now it's 200 bucks in advantage of the Xbox 1 and 100 for the PS4. This WILL give them a step up. Also bundling it with Zelda is a very good idea. 50 isn't that much of a cut to complain.. the 3DS, which is a HANDHELD dropped 80.

i think its a little bit more than that. Nintendo promised "we learned our lesson from 3ds launch"... and they repeat it with Wii U or even dare i say did worse. not only that but their was a promise of Wii U being a console for the core.... how is that working out? Again i have a Wii U and its the only console i will own this gen same as last gen Wii, before that Gamecube, and that N64. i love nintendo and want them to succeed.... but they messed up big time and in reality its NOJ fault they dont understand the western audience and gamers and its biting them in the A$$... and it seems they arent trying to do much to change that. i was looking at this video from gaming analyst he said if he was nintendo he would have got on his knees and begged take two/rockstar to put GTA V on Wii U.... its EASILY the biggest game releasing this year. i know nintendo is a proud company and they should be they accomplished a lot over the last 30 years but sometimes to have to fold a bit and say hey 3rd party publisher/dev we need to make this happen what do we have to do.

#239045 How do you feel about the Wii U gamepad?

Posted by Chrop on 13 August 2013 - 07:04 PM

I get to play console games in bed...

I get to watch netflix on the toilet on very disruptive days...

I get to read miiverse while getting a tan in the garden...

I get to use the Wii U without a single TV in a house...

every argument against the gamepad is invalid.

#239655 Is this going to be the trend for Wii U 3rd Party Games?

Posted by Poptartboy on 16 August 2013 - 02:46 PM

But all of these are minor things that most people won't bother with.

You can keep sitting there refusing to buy games because of minor things, and then you can enjoy when the next round of games don't come to Wii U at all, and then you can all complain some more about how the world hates you.

Or you could just buy Batman and enjoy its great single player mode.

#187696 Wii U won't be getting Unreal Engine 4

I love how this guy thinks it's a joke to deny his clients his newest product on a device capable of running it.

How long before they go out of business?

When average consumer buys a car, they dont ask what materials are used to make the car... They see the car, try it, buy it if they like it.

Same is with the consoles. I dont think M$ will go into details with their system too. Sony can do that and Sony's interest is to do that because of their audience, and myths about Sony's power.

The fact is, only small percentage of consumers really care about specs. What people call "core gamers" are not more that 10% of all gamers, and large percentage of core gamers are mainly PC gamers.

Wii U is one solid piece of hardware, it just needs software and marketing. I think that Wii U is more appealing to core gamers than Wii was, it is the best balanced machine to date, and have the most comfortable controller ever created... People just need some software that they can play on it.

When X, Mario, Metroid and Bayonetta 2 come out, spike in sales will be huge.

Actually, most people research the car. Engine type, number of cylinders, horsepower, torque, how many liters (cubic inch displacement), exhaust type, etc.

Same with consoles.

It's all about potential. When you buy high performance hardware, you have peace of mind knowing that your hardware won't be a limiting factor in your gaming enjoyment. With weak hardware, you may still get a fun game but it will be sub par in other areas such as graphics, that would have really changed the e perience.

But Nintendo thinks different. They don't want to focus on specs, though they obviously worked very hard in putting together a high performance machine.

They want to be the place you go to just enjoy. Like willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Without all the technical difficulties. Lol

Posted by Penguin101 on 12 March 2013 - 03:10 PM

why don't Nintendo just come out with the specs.

Because it looks like it'd be too complex to explain how the Wii U running at a low clock can perform so well. It'd be easier to show people a visual example, or have a piece of demo software running on Unreal 4 or something like that. It's a simple and easier way to explain specs rather than raw numbers.

People understand pretty looking realistic visuals as being better more than GFLOPS and Mhz and Gigawatts. The media also understand simple terms like Unreal 4 as it's a "next gen engine" to prove what the Wii U is capable of. These would be simple ways of getting the point across.

They kidna did that with the Zen Garden and Zelda demo, but the Zelda demo at least looked easily repeatable on a PS3 or 360. The Zen garden looked slightly more impressive however I would have at least tried to get Unreal 4 powering the demo  just because it's a buzzword the media can pick up on!

#173062 Are things really this dire?

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 19 February 2013 - 12:08 PM

I think it's fair to say that the Wii U future is unclear, people are concerned about sales, the price, the lack of AAA titles and 3rd party support.

When you really care about something, Nintendo, a football club, a band, it can be pretty hard standing on the sidelines watching them fail. It's that sense of powerlessness as they make mistakes that bugs me.

So I figured I'd come up with a few positive things I can do to ensure Nintendo don't go all Sega on us.

1) Word of Mouth: Keep telling people about the Wii U, (Explaining it's more than a gamepad) Tweet and Facebook about it. F-Zero bargain offer comes out, I'm gonna tweet about it!

2) Contact TV-On Demand services. People have come to expect TV-on-Demand on their console. Here in the UK we have the hugely popular BBC iplayer for all the main consoles but not yet on I wii U. I will email them having a moan!

3) Get some mates round. The best way to understand the Wii U is to play so I better get a few beers in, get few friends to dust off their wiimotes and have an evening of asymmetrical play!

4) Stay Positive. There is a sense of self fulfilling prophecy about all of this. If we keep saying it's going to fail then whose going to buy one. Constructive criticism is one thing but I will avoid moaning moaning sake.

Anyway that's my way of thinking about all of this. Bring on F-Zero and Pikmin 3.
