#316864 Wii Zap U prototyping

Posted by Nukie on 11 September 2015 - 03:46 PM

A while ago, I posted a series of images of the "Wii Zap U" which was my design of a rifle like Wii U Zapper.

The link below shows some early concept art and the progression of the idea.

Now an opportunity has arisen to turn my ideas into real prototypes, so I ask for the help and support of this community.
Dremel New Zealand are giving away a 3D printer, the winner being the one with the most votes.

The link below will take you to the competition submission page,  scroll though the entries until you find the picture above and give it a vote please.

After voting, please leave a reply so I know who to thank.

Another idea I have is for Wiimote FPS/Shooter fans.
A case or holder for your Wiimote that has levers which actuate buttons.  The levers will reach towards the [A] button.  A simple design might let you press plus, minus, D-left or D-right without moving your thumb too far from [A]. If I make one, I'll happily post the designs here for other members to use.
Thank you for your time.

#316218 Wii U - Star Fox Zero E3 2015 Trailer

Posted by Nukie on 24 July 2015 - 12:54 PM

I have been reading some articles about the Nintendo Media Event in Toronto. The SFZ impressions of using the gamepad are mixed to say the least. The impressions range from "Oh I get it, yeah I really do" to "this is ridiculous, how am I supposed to fly while looking at the blah blah blah ".  Haven't seen anyone whose tried the demo post "wow, this is the best control method ever" yet.
So now more than ever, I am very keen to get my hands on the game, because I am intrigued to know how it all fits together. I'm sure Nintendo exhaustively tested the gameplay mechanics before bringing  the game to E3. Nintendo knows how to do fun, it's just not the pick up and play mechanics were used to.

A while ago I posted the above jpg showing the gamepad being used to 'look out the window'. Pretty conservative compared to what's coming.
I am really looking forward to Star Fox Zero because of its very different control method.

I had to delete 5GB from the internal memory so I could download Tekken Tag 2. Time to get my games back.

#306463 Wii 2

I feel like it the top is breaching the border the bottom should be too, for balance.

Like this?

I had done something like this originally, but I felt that the fine blue line helped define the numeral.
But as I look at this new image, you are right, it really does look better.

#305441 Mr Myamoto plays Ace Combat Wii U.☆ MOCK UP☆.

Crowded skies and Amiibo paint jobs? Ace Combat heaven.
2014-12-17 01.40.02.jpg
I've grabbed a couple of planes from the newly revealed Amiibo jet fighters of Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy Plus 3ds, and have inserted these into the concept art from above.

You see Mr Myamoto looking over at Luigi.

Not an image from Ace Combat, but it does carry on with the theme.

A close up of the gamepad.
Notice the curved piece of canopy on both screens.  Hopefully that helps with perspective, showing a view of two angles from the same place.

An Art Academy Sketch Pad Wii U mash up of Rambo and Splatoon.

A little something I drew to pass the time while waiting for the game to arrive, in between playing MK8, Wind Waker, and Mass Effect 3.

A rough and ready mock up of "The Devil's Third" being played with the "Wii Zap U"(couldn't find a decent screen of Ivan facing the right way).
When I saw this game unveiled at e3, I thought "that's the perfect vehicle for the 'WZU' peripheral".
Possible the melee and sword attacks could be done by swiping the touch screen.
On a side note, Mr Myamoto's "Giant Robot" is the very same concept.

Ok.  Some basic control mechanics ideas.
2014-04-01 00.44.16.png
Scenario-Your fire team is taking fire from the right.  Zapper and on screen avatar facing right.
Raise and lower Zapper to move in and out of cover(blue arrow).  Raise a little to peek.
Currently the big screen is set to look over your fire team, but you want to have the gamepad view in the big screen. Aim toward the enemy and hold the L trigger, then rotate the Zapper to face the big screen(red arrow). The world would rotate so as to have the enemy on the big screen. At this point the game would look like a regular 3rd person shooter, with the reticle still in the gamepad.
Thumb stick -forward, backward and strafe. Click thumb for sprint and contextual actions.L locks the camera and R for shoot.
I'm sure that a set up similar to any cover based 3rd person shooter would work just as well in this scenario.

#277971 Full Spectrum Warrior 3DS?

Posted by Nukie on 08 September 2014 - 08:30 PM

*New images-the original gameplay concept pictures have been replaced. The new images show the "new 3ds" and how FSW may look on it. Also FSW & new 3ds logos have been incorporated into the artwork for effect only, and represents artistic interpretation. This post serves only to convey the hope that one day this game on this platform becomes a reality. *

Maybe we could convince Nordic Games to bring Full Spectrum Warrior to the 3ds.
On the bottom screen, which would be a top down dynamic map, you would select a fire team(tap to select). Once selected, let's say 'Team Alpha', draw an arrow to a point on the map. At the end of the arrow a bubble appears. Tap for a pull down menu, or draw a letter in the bubble to assign a task eg.'M'for move, 'B'for bound/overwatch,'F'for fire etc.
The top screen would look much the same as the original game, although look direction could be on a slider or ring in the bottom screen.
Another key element could be raising the 3ds from the rested position(in your lap) to horizontal, changing the image from over the shoulder to FPS view for that precision shot.

Some ideas of how gameplay elements may work.

I'm sure with the added horse power of the "New 3ds" Full Spectrum Warrior would be a perfect fit.
Quote from Nordic Games
"In the long term, we either want to cooperate with the original creators or best possible developers in order to work on sequels or additional content for these titles," Lars Wingefors, owner and CEO of Nordic Games Group AB said at the time. "A very important point for us is not to dash into several self-financed multi-million dollar projects right away, but rather to continue our in-depth analysis of all titles and carefully selecting different financing models for developing new installments of acquired IPs."

Hey everyone. I've made some pretty striking chances to the above post.

With the "New 3DS" on the horizon, Full Spectrum Warrior would be a perfect fit.

I hope with the images typed text and cleaned up legend(s), readers will get a better understanding of how the game might work.

Are there any FSW fans out there?(please don't let me be the only one).

Or maybe you think "I could play that", either way please "yeah" and leave a comment....with enough buzz,  Lars Wingefors of Nordic Games will sit up and take notice.

#277237 An idea just crossed my mind

Posted by Nukie on 14 March 2014 - 04:44 PM

A great way to get friends really interested is to invite them over to play.

Nintendoland is some of the most fun I've ever had gaming with other people. My two adult sons both want a a Wii U, just from playing Nintendoland. ....
My phone rang just now while I'm typing this reply. It's my eldest son "Hey dad, wanna come over for a beer? Bring the game(wii u) with you too".
It may be a while before he gets his own system if I keep taking him my one.
Invite friends to pay NL.
