Nintendo was centralizing the wii u experience as they should. Made it focused. Not a hodgepodge of other peoples stuff.
But they'll open up to Facebook and twitter as options. It's not a big deal. Basically a tailored interface for those systems.
Just need those folks to create apps that can be run on wii u.
As far as Skype, Microsoft bought them out. I wonder if ms will prevent it from appearing on other consoles.
Skype is already available on the Vita, Mac and iOS platforms and i believe Android and still supported so its highly unlikely MS would prevent it from being released on other platforms.

Didn't 360 have a FB app and then dropped it due to lack of interest? Skype would be a perfect fit so you could talk to people without a Wii U, which outnumbers people with.

I've often wondered about this myself. Skype seems like a perfect fit. I really want to try out the chat feature with someone to see how the camera performs. IDK about FB or Twitter, I think Nintendo will stick with Miiverse for a while. I've often thought about a Pandora app also, I think that would be pretty neat.

Sure, why not. I probably wouldn't use it a lot, but might as well for the people that do, right?

No... I had downloaded the Facebook app to my xbox360 and never used it... the only time I ever used FB on the 360 was for an achievement.. lol... so, no... nott necessary.
But on the flip side of that, I don't HAVE to download it. So if they made an app because that's what people want, great... keep the consumer happy and give them what they want.

I don't exactly want or need it, but these things would be pretty nice.
Some people always have a cellphone on them. I'm so awesome I always have a 3DS.

There is a video chat program on Wii U that resembles Skype. It uses the Miiverse function (which you might have heard about) where you can chat face-to-face with other players and your friends.

It feels like NIntendo was trying to centralize the social aspect of the Wii U with Miiverse. So this seems kind of unlikely to happen. As long as they keep updating and expanding on Miiverse (which could possibly include Facebook, Twitter, etc. linking for those who want it), I'll be content.
You make a good point. TVii has facebook and Twitter intergration so I think if anything It will be added into Miiverse!

One problem. That only works with other people who also have a Wii U. Something like Skype would allow you to communicate with a lot more people out there.

Yeah I didn't understand someone pointing out it can be done on the system. Only a couple of my friends have a Wii U, so there isn't enough penetration yet for that feature to be uber useful. Skype would make perfect sense.

skype would be amazing, i wish we had cross-game voice chat at least, that was one of the things i always wanted on ps3, also a trophy system would be cool and i can see nintendo adding one in, im no achievement hunter but a lot of people are and it's rewarding seeing the achievment/trophy message popping up

We will more than likely see Facebook and/or Twitter integrated into the console eventually. In fact, Nintendo should have seeked to have done this at launch. It is essentially free advertising from everyone who links their console to their social network accounts.
