Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has outlined why he believes the game industry overall has been in a downturn the past two years. The executive told investors that this is due to two reasons, the first of which has to do with consumers being reluctant to pay the current rates for packaged software when the games are only marginally updated over what is already available

Nintendo = Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Pikmin, Star Fox, F-Zero, Wario Ware, Smash Bros.
[Notice the variety]
Sony and Microsoft = Halo, Uncharted, Gears of War, Killzone, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Saints Row
[Notice how they are rehashed and have no variety]

And now you know one of the reasons why I left.

Some of them were funny but....seriously,

Mario Galaxy is not the same as Mario 64,Mario Kart is not the same as Mario Party, Ocarina of Time is not the same as Wind Waker, Super Metroid is not the same as Metroid Prime, Star Fox 64 is not the same as Star Fox Assault, Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland is not the same as Kirby's Epic Yarn. The list goes on and on.

What is the same are the yearly released games. Every Sports games ring a bell? Call of Duty ring a bell? Assassin's Creed ring a bell? They ARE ALL THE DAMN SAME AS THE PREVIOUS!

The difference is that Nintendo relies too much on Mario to gain respect for hardcore gamers. Ever notice how a game like Zelda or Fire Emblem come out, it's relished and praised by various sources over months on end? It's because Nintendo released something that isn't the same IP.

At least Sony and Microsoft use the potential of different IPs (Call of Duty, Halo, Gears of War, Portal, Half-Life, etc.) to release generic installments to keep their fans happy. If Nintendo used this model, a lot of those idiotic commentors would most likely decrease by half.

The comment section is just sad.

a lot of them just say Nintendo needs more "Mature" games and new IP's.

Mature/darker looking games: X, Bayonetta 2, Deus EX: HR, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4, Arkham Origins, Injustice, Call of Duty 2013.

. . . . . scratches head..... Apparently those games aren't mature?

They arent saying those games arent mature; however those are 3rd party games

They said Ninty needs more mature IP's, which would be implying that Mario, Kirby, Zelda, Yoshi, Donkey Kong arent "Mature"

But Im not sure I want Nintendo making games that those people would consider "Mature", because Nintendo has a certain code of ethics about them that I find quite classy, A game doesnt have to be filled with gore and blood and tacos and language to be "Mature".

Nvm I read what you said wrong :P .....But im sure those nasty Ninty haters would just love for Nintendo to throw their morals out the window :P

I will admit, mario is overdone. But I can't think of a single other ninty IP which gets a release less than 3 years apart from another.

I was once known here as KillerMario, but since I really like Banjo-Kazooie, I changed my display name to show them my respect :)

Yes, because Portal and Half Life are great examples of releasing more installments to keep fans happy.

What are you talking about? Both of them released episodes that virtually just had improved graphics and gameplay and that's pretty much what the other three do as well. Just because Portal hasn't had a sequel in 2 and a half years doesn't mean you can overlook the seperate DLC for it.

There will never be too much Zelda.

Exactly, not only are they fresh, new, and interesting every single time, they don't come out very often and are always some of the most polished games in the entire industry.
