Shigeru Miyamoto, the grandaddy of gaming, recently sat down for an interview with IGN. They talked briefly about Nintendo's software development strategy heading into this crucial holiday season, and Miyamoto revealed that they were really hoping to get more out of their in-home teams -- especially Retro Studios, celebrated developer of Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Country Returns.

While many fans are upset that the company's new game is a sequel to their Donkey Kong title, and not another entry in the Metroid series, Miyamoto implies that the studio could be making games more frequently in the future:

"Certainly we do feel that we want to leverage the capabilities of Retro Studios further, because as we've seen from the Metroid games, they're a very capable studio." — Shigeru Miyamoto

Please allow them to create something other than DK or Metroid, a new IP Miyamoto..

Isn't the whole point of Retro to make modern installments of older, "retro" franchises? Sure they would be capable of making a new ip but I'm not sure that's what Nintendo wants from them.

No. Not in the slightest, the name is just a coincidence. Nintendo first aquired them to make 6 original gamecube games.

Amazing that we wait 15 years for a new DK Country game then two are made in the space of three years, not that I'm complaining.

Great, Miyamoto. Now make their team a bit larger and put out the next 3D Metroid! Give them a new IP at the latter half of this gen so they have something to go into next gen.

Metroid.

For the sake of all that is good, give us a AAA high end, Metroid that makes people forget what Halo was (though its hard to forget Halo 4, since its basically Metroid without Samus...)

And with all the talent Retro has acquired, Metroid seems like it should be a given.

Get Retro to make a new F-Zero or Star Fox!

Or a new 3D collect-a-thon platformer of sorts!

If you think Smogon ban stuff

"Just because they can't beat it"

You clearly don't play OU

You clearly have no knowledge of the metagame

And you clearly don't deserve to have an opinion.

Given the state of development tools, or rather, the way they were up until post launch, I think I am glad they did the DKC sequel first.

Since Halo 4 had a lot of of the Prime devs working on it, or some of the key players, I am hoping they let the current studio do something different-possibly a 3rd person Metroid. I am thinking of some cool morph ball combat mechanics that could be completely different than anything ever done before in the genre.

Agreed on the timing. Nintendos tools were hurting for a while. But its clear there maturing rapidly. But we need Metroid now. In development. Ready to rock next summer.

If a good representation of Metroid was at E3, there may be no talk of Titanfall now.

So we wait. But they should be working on it now. Based on how closely Halo 4 resembles older Metroid games, maybe it's best that those folks left Retro. Nothing new to see from them. retro has expanded with huge talent now. Metroid is a good fit for that.

And I think FPA is the way to go with Metroid. Third person seems to get in the way sometimes. Just my 0.02. No 2.5 D junk either. That's getting old already. Lol
