And from the looks of it, 3D world looks exactly like 3D Land, VERY VERY linear, same level design, just better bosses and fun dinosaur water surfing thing. Galaxy 3 will be Galaxy 2 with different levels. I'd rather have Mario be somewhere we haven't seen before with different level designs, Even 3D land was just a galaxy game without the spin attack and gravity gimmick.

You've seen a 2 minute trailer of 3D world and you're completely writing it off....

I think Sunshine and Galaxy coule easily have a version that translates well to the Wii U and it's gamepad. The gamepad could show a bird's view of your position, with Sunshine having a "water pen" where you can draw rain or water shields, while on Galaxy the touch input can manipulate the shape or gravity of the land. It'd be pretty fun to play.

Yes because Super Mario Sunshine is not new compared to Super Mario 64, And 64 is not new compared to galaxy, and galaxy is not new compared to 3D land.
Galaxy 2 played literally played the same as the first galaxy game (linear, collect either the 1 Or 2 stars from the level, same minigame type things etc).

So... jumping at paintings instead of into stars is a major new thing?

And shooting a water gun is different from fire flower.

K.

I don't consider sunshine to be a platformer, so lumping that with 64, 3d and galaxy isn't correct.

That's like saying Mario Kart was such a new Mario platformer.

To be blunt, what else could they do with the Mario series? They really haven't done anything groundbreaking since the Galaxy series. Nintendo while a creative company, have been pushing out the same Mario games will little to challenge for the last two years now. Their bosses battles lack innovation, they are also repetitive (NSMB series for example). May it's that Bowser has simply gotten stale? Every Bowser boss battle is usually the same thing with little change. Even in Super Mario Galaxy 2, a game I think that's the best 3D Mario game of all time! Had rather redundant Bowser battles (strange since the first Galaxy fights with Bowser were good). I think we need  a break from the Mario series for awhile. Nintendo just keeps pumping out Mario game after Mario game, and I can't stand it at this point. It's becoming quite clear they're running out of ideas.

"Give us games"

"We want games"

"Nintendo has no games for us to play"

--We will give you a installment that will be based on 2 of the highest rated games of all time in the history of video games, Sincerely God Mr Miyamoto

"NOOOOO"

"F***you Nintendo"

"Lets boycott Nintendo"

Nintendo fans are impossible to please :P

I'm yet to see "Lets boycott Nintendo" over this. But anyway, you're just generalizing. The Galaxy series is my least favorite of the 3D Mario platformers (well, alongside 3D Land). I don't care how highly rated they were, that doesn't matter to me because I don't think they deserve that.

I, for one, was very clear with the 3D Mario game I was asking for from the very beginning. So you can't pull that on me.

give mario the hub world/large open world like maps from older mario games that the majority of mario fans are requesting, instead of turning mario into the COD of platforming.

You're judging your chickens before they hatch :P

You've seen a 2 minute trailer of 3D world and you're completely writing it off....

No, i've seen 5 entire levels of it and completely writing it off. (The 5 Demo levels shown at best buy and E3)

24734859.jpg

How the hell do you not consider Super Mario Sunshine a platformer?? Because he can spray water or something??? The game has every convention of a platformer, you job is to jump around the area getting to different places by jumping and using Fludd to reach the star at the end or kill bosses, Also NINTENDO Calls it a freaking platformer! Just because you don't think it's a platformer doesn't mean it's not a platformer, it's like saying I don't class mario kart as a racing game but a beat em up game. That doesn't make it a beat em up game. It IS A PLATFORMER.

And the MAJOR things to Super Mario 64 and 3D land is the levels themselves...

Spoiler
Take the first level for example, you can go up the bridge, jump up to the left, straight forward. You can gain either Star 1, Star 3, Star 4, Star 5, Star 6 or 100 Coin Star if you pick star 1 in the star option screen. So much freedom. Its a giant open area where you can go wherever you want.

Spoiler
3D land, where can you go in each level? ooh ya, the only possible way to go because there is only 1 possible outcome, the flag post at the end. ya maybe you find a pipe somewhere else as a shortcut but that's all. It's stupidly linear. Take this level, the only possible way to get to the end is to go forward than to the right. bearly any freedom. in the more open level worlds you can explore a tiny bit but the only reward for it is a star medal at the most. Galaxy is pretty much like this but with a gravity Gimmick and 2 options to go, 1 way to go to the normal star and another way by feeding the hungry luma. but once you choose 1 of those 2 options thats all, just straight to the star and that's it. There is bearly any exploration in these games. Super Mario Sunshine on the other hand when you choose 1 star you can either do the 1 star or a different one, but that has exploration due to the scale of the levels, you explore the place and find blue coins scattered around the place, do 100 coin mission find out how to do that star etc.

Hmm. As long as it adds something new, like less linear pathways with multiple ways you can planet-hop your way to the end.

I've already said on here I would definitely buy SMG 3 as long as it uses the Wii U's capabilities to it's fullest, if the game has rich detail and content and Mario and/or Yoshi (or whoever else, wink wink) flying round an HD galaxy with new bosses, new (and maybe some old) enemies, new starscapes, new colourful and well detailed planet-scapes - and of course maybe a split-ascreen multiplayer option would be good too.

My question is "why are you trying to pigeonhole the games into a specific genre?" All the answers I've seen explaining why people like the old games and not the new are fairly vague, and sound suspiciously like they are simply beginning to look a children's games through adult eyes.

I'd tell you all to grow up, but I believe that is the problem.

Nooo!! Nintendo, stop. Stop right there. Don't spend any more money on exploring the Galaxy series. TO be perfectly honest I'm no longer interested, and will most likely not purchase another Galaxy game. Go back to Super Mario 64. That needs a sequel.
