Okay, I may be a bit crazy with this, but I've been noticing some similarities between the Wii and Wii U, and NES and SNES. Let's start with the Wii and NES
  • Crappy 3rd party shovel ware, with the occasional gem. Now, I wasn't around during the NES days, but with the number of Angry Video Game Nerd videos I've seen(and the fact that back then many sources including the movie The Wizard claimed that their were only 80 games for the NES when there's really over 800 confirmed NES games), I think it's safe to say, a good 9/10s of the NES' library was less than outstanding. For every Final Fantasy, you had a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Hydlide, and a Milon's Secret Castle. With the Wii, for every Mad World, there's a Baby Sitting Mama, Carnival Games, and a Deca Sports 3. The difference between then and now? Now, there's something a bit better being offered.
  • A ton of accessories. With the NES we had the the Zapper, Rob, Power Pad, Power Glove, U Force, Speed Board, and several others. With the Wii there's the Classic Controller, Motion Plus, Wii Balance Board, Wii Speak, and the Wii Zapper. While other systems have had accessories, none that I know of have had them in as large a quantity as these two.
  • Three main series Super Mario games. NES had Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 (only counting one version of the game) and Super Mario Bros. 3. The Wii Has Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and Super Mario Galaxy 2. all other Nintendo Consoles have only had one main series game(although, some may count Yoshi's Island as a main series game, making it 2 for the SNES if you do).
That's all that I could think of at the moment for the Wii and NES similarities. I'll add more latter if I think of them. Now, for Wii U and SNES. I haven't found many of these yet, since there isn't much known about the Wii U yet, but here's the ones I have notice so far:
  • Carrying over part of their predecessor's name. Self-explanatory.
  • Expanding the modern controller. The SNES introduced the standard 4 face buttons, and the idea of shoulder buttons. The Wii U is introducing the touch screen. (Granted, that seems to be a common trait among Nintendo's systems. The N64 introduced the analog stick and rumble. Wii introduced motion controls. GameCube....Wireless with the WaveBird?)
So, what's your ideas on all this? Do you think I'm seeing things? Do you have any comparisons of your own you'd like to point out?

It's good that you have caught on. Consoles tend to have this sort of pattern, but there is more crap on the PC, playstations, and xbobxes. Nintendo, being who they are, tend to have less crap and less games than the other companies.
But if you watch the AVGN, you need to know that it's just a show. Not all the games are bad, Millon's secret castle and the Silver Surfer are actually pretty fun, if you have played them.

Fun fact: The Gamecube is when Sonic shined, with Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic Mega and Gem Collection. Mario had more spin off games than main games, as there was only Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario and the thousand year door, and Luigi's mansion.

The 64: This was one of Nintendo's golden age systems. They had the great zelda games, banjo games, and even mario games. Just like the other systems, this system had crappy games, but they didn't gain reputation, as the good games were the only ones that people bought.

At least they are creative. What is the difference between a PS2 controler and a PS3 controller, there are very few so Sony gets little points and same for Microsoft. Nintendo may not have the best third party suport but they are very creative. That is what all of the other company needs to learn. Look at the PS Move! Now I think that looks like a wii remote an the Kinect! That is a copy of the PS Eye! I don't care about the games or add ons as long as there are a few good games from Nintendo I am sold.

Good call. I would have never noticed this.

I notice the similarities too. The Wii is like the NES of our generation. Hopefully if everything goes right, the Wii U will be the SNES of our generation.

Sony spent a lot of time perfecting the PS2 remote, the design was certainly good enough to use on their next console. They couldn't have really made it better without turning it into an Xbox 360 controller, do you really think they would've pleased more gamers if they used crappy motion controls (example: Wii) instead?

Well, they released the Move, and we all know where that got them...~coughnowherecough~

It's unoriginal, honestly. All Sony does is use the same regurgitated crap, and then directly copy off of other developers ideas.

That's just the current trend overcoming many industries - the creative industry especially; a recycling of sorts - but really is an attempt to achieve similar results to whatever campaigns are working out there. It will always be frowned upon, but potentially may produce better ideas in the long run. Evidence is clear with every new generation or leap in technology, not considering what Moore's law or whatever predicts. I wish for the sake of argument that it really doesn't matter who does what and how its done. I just want to see Nintendo do well, and I will greatly dislike Sony for their 'mimicking' of innovation that clearly isn't theirs, but it will only distinguish the Nintendo quality more. There needs to be an degree of competition to just keep things tight. Just a stale and a shameful way to do business...SONY - should stand for Shamefully Opposing Nintendo's Yield. Shouldn't they be actively worrying about Microsoft's rumoured leg-way with neXtBox anyway? Although, I suppose it was suggested that they have made comments on competing more directly by bring their new console release forward...
BANGIN!

Sony copied the wiimote with move.

Nintendo's classic controller pro looks like a ps2 controller so I think they're even.

PS2 controller is an enhanced PS1 controller.

A PS1 controller is an enhanced SNES controller.

Odds still tipped in Nintendo's favour.

I think it just deals with how Nintendo works as a company. I don't think there's some conspiracy to make sure there are X Mario games every generation. And with a successful system comes tons of accessories. That's how capitalism works.
