Besides, it is the perfect way to continue the Wii family and finally correcting its mistakes with the Wii U. At first I hated it but now, I kinda like the name

While not entirely creative, I have no problem with the name - and it's easy to remember.
I believe it's a very creative name. During the 2011 E3 conference Reggie Fils-Aime mentioned that the 'U' in Wii U could mean anything.
It can mean, Universal, Unique, U (as in 'you'), Utopia, anything! Basically the meaning of 'U' is totally up to the person interpreting it.

I belive it's a place holder, but for one main reason:http://www.WiiU.com
If you go there, You will find that Nintendo doesn't own the domain name, it's not even a fan site lik Wii U Blog, or Wii U Go.
After doing some reaserch, I found that this is the only console name, other than Nes.com(more on that in a minute), that doesn't link to Nintendo's website in some form or fashon. If you were to go to: http://Wii.com, or http://N64.com It will send you to nintendo's website. If you go to http://gamecube.com, it sends you to the where to buy page from Nintendo's Website. And if you go to http://snes.com, it sends you to the Virtual Console page from Nintendo's website.
The reason nes.com doesn't send you to Nintendo's website, is because it's owned by the New England Sports Center.
So yeah, My beliefe on why Wii U isn't the official name for the new system. But those are just my thoughts though, what do you guys think?
EDIT:Oh, and one other thing is the whole 3DS debacle. Many thought the 3DS was just another DS, and many more thought that Wii U was just an add on for the Wii. There's another reason as to why I think they'll change the name.

But I guess it would work assuming it recieves a catchy name that gets accepted in the long-term like the how the Nintendo Revolution became the Nintendo Wii.

As for my thoughts on the name itself, I can see why people hate it, and I can see why people like it. But one thing is for sure, everyone is going to know when the Wii U is coming down the block.(Man it's loud.)

No matter how false it is, the Wii name is associated to shovelware and casual games by the hardcore. I agree that if Nintendo wants to gain back the hardcore they should get as far away from the Wii branding as possible.yea im pretty sure the name is finalized but im hopefull they change it. i just want the console to seperate its self from the wii brand
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Now there has been alot of speculation as to whether Wii U is the official name of the new console, or if it's a placeholder, like Revolution, or Dolphin.

wow very interesting bit of research, well done, actually until i read that i never ever considered that them changing the name was even slightly possible, i was convinced wii u was final, but now i think there is a chance it will change, but i still think it will probably stay wii u

I agree, something about this name seems final. I know they changed the names of their last three home consoles, but this one is different somehow.

yh i agree, its all to do with the wii's success, they dont want that brand that sold 90 million to be lost

Edit: Oh, and I remember Reggie saying that the people buying the Wii U will not be the same as the people who bought the Wii, so why would the Wii Brand name matter?
