Actully, it's more likley then you think.

The Nintendo 64 was going to be named Nintendo Ultra 64 but before they released it they took Ultra out of the name.
The Gamecube was going to be called Dolphin but before they released it they just changed it to Gamecube
And then Wii was going to be named Revolution but they wanted to change it so they called it Wii.

Nintendo changing the name for Wii U would not be shocking.

I swear that I mentioned that on the Wii U official Name thread, was no one paying attention!?

UNES (Ultra Nintendo Entertainment System) or the Nintendo Revolution. That would be awesome.

While the chances of those happening are next to none, I like em!

The name has grown on me so in my humble opinion it should be left alone. But, people could get confused if they leave the Wii name in there.

I read this earlier. It's Obvious Japan will get it first. The only consoles that were released in the summer time by Nintendo were the SNES and NES but that was japan. The closest to summer a NA release was the N64 (September).

I really hope this happens, I want them to drop the Wii from the name. I think 'Nintendo React' or just 'React' for short would be cool.

I think Wii U is just fine. Ive grown to like it even though I initially thought it was awful.

Which ever 'core' gamer dont like the Wii name wouldnt buy the system regardless of what it's called. They'd pull the good ol' "Nintendo is kiddy", etc yadayadayada.

As long as they market it right there will be no confusion. They need to get across the message that Wii U is the console itself and not the controller.

Nintendo doesnt Need Wii In the Name to sell the system. All it needs is Mario at launch. Everyone saw how good the 3DS did when Mario came to it.

Thats true, all Nintendo needs is Mario and other amazing games and BAM Nintendo sells a million Wii U's. But I do like, seriously, Nintendo U. Or just "U".

I dont mind about the name, if they give us HDD capabilities and upgrades. Also, if wii U is not an actual media player (blu-ray, dvd), be able watch our movies from HDD... I know that nintendo bets that users dont need blu-ray and dvd, as we got 1.. but nobody wants lots of devices in their living room also!

I dont have blu-ray to be honest...

Another reason they could change it easly is that from what David said, they did not put the Wii U on the console or the controller, when the Wii was the Revolution it was on the console and Wiimote, so it would be easy for them to change it.

im also alot more skeptical because the Wii U logo is never seen in any trailers not even the launch titles that they are confirmed to have. The only time i have seen the logo anywhere outside of nintendo marketing is with the recent project Cars website
