I agree with most of what the guy in the video said. Although you really can't blame people in general for buying something they care about. Cuz it's their money, and they have the right to do whatever they want with it. You can't tell some casual "Dude, you gotta buy more obscure games!!!". It just doesn't work like that, and you can't blame them. Squish brought up a good point too. Downloadable demos are the best way for someone to try out new IP's they've never heard of. This current gen is probably the first time I've expanded my gaming interests. Before that, I only bought games from franchises I was already familiar with, and buying a completely new debuting IP would be a waste of money (especially when you're a younger kid, and your parents do all the buying). Thanks to the PS3, I browsed through the PSN store, saw a bunch of games I could download for free, and played them. I had a lot of fun being introduced to games I'd normally never try out, and this method is probably the most efficient way to promote games to the specific console owner. My interest in playing different franchises has led me to do a lot of soul searching internet searching, watching gameplay videos, and reviews, as well as participating in forums (seeing gamers randomly mention a non mainstream game with praise helped a lot). If the Wii U does indeed have a service similar to PSN/XBLA, then more people should be aware of this. And third party companies need to advertise their games more properly.

This topic is interesting, and needs more attention (not specifically this topic on this forum, I mean within the entire Nintendo fan community). I've seen many people on forums say stuff like "I'm not getting a Wii U until Smash Bros comes out, don't care about anything else". Those are the type of people that should be exposed to this subject. Word of mouth also works. Talk to your friends about how cool a specific game is, borrow games, trade games, play online with them, and show them all these amazing games that they're missing out on, even if all they play is sports games, and licensed games.

this is why 3rd parties have not supported nintendo consoles in the past (other than lack of HD graphics on wii).
it is really important that we all support third parties from launch with the wii u if we want 3rd party support to continue, we are so lucky the third parties are giving us this chance with wii u, lets not let them down. i blame the gaming media a lot for this problem but its also an issue with the consumers, lets bring this around

The problem with most nintendo 3rd party games is that they're usually terrible, so nobody buys them.

On the video, this fellow doesn't realise people have tastes of their own.
Here's why I traded back in the 3DS games I bought.
steel diver: not worth 45 euro
monkeyball: boring and repetitive after 10 minutes.
ridge racer: horrible controls, played like poop.
rayman: ugly port of a decent 9001 year old game.

shinobi: looks ugly and boring, but I haven't played it yet.
maden wii: target audience likes big screen tv's which sd wii looks bad on, and waggle controls aren't cool.

dr. lautrec is the game he couldn't remember the name of, if they had copied layton better and put more puzzles in than adventure parts, they'd have had my sale. This is what third parties do, they take something good, and ruin it.
Resident Evil Revelations will be a great marker for how third parties can do.

AAA = quality, which is worth 45 euro usually.
His main point was people only buying AAA games, and he seems surprised.
Nobody buys a car that might break down after a day, they buy a good brand they trust, why would you not?
People expect a certain level of quality for their money, and some people require different levels of proof.
Some people can accept a friend's word, others need to play it, others will never have enough proof a game is worth the 45 euro price tag.

I'm the Sportsgamer sooo...
Never buy a Madden on Wii it's terrible and EA sports uses 10% of there time to make it.

But 07 was actually a very great game. You can buy it today for about $8.

Just never buy an Ea Sports Game on the Wii.

I hate Madden anyways on every console, it sucks.

I think Nintendo just releases too many exclusives that overshadow 3rd parties. I don't blame them, I bet must of their revenue come from selling their software, different from Sony which obtains most of their profits from selling their hardware(one of the reasons they are failing a lot right now) and Microsoft which obtains most from charging for their services. But if you compare the quality exclusives made by Nintendo to other systems you will notice that 3rd Parties are always scared of competing with Nintendo games. Granted PlayStation has a lot of great exclusives, but 3rd parties still sell much more than Uncharted or Resistance.

Nollog brings up a very good point.

It doesn't help that many games that come out for Nintendo systems are plain terrible, or mediocre. And then companies like to blame everything on Nintendo fans when no one buys their shovelware/port/remake/spin off/mediocre game.

I think this topic should've been posted on the Wii U games section instead of the general gaming section.... Just to give it some more exposure.
