I dont know about any of you but, all my friends love ps3 and 360 and graphics have a lot to do with it. I admit game play is very important but if the Wii U wants to really grab that "hardcore" gamer then they need to step it up with the graphics. Mario and donkey kong and those games will be fine but any shooter or sports games, the graphics need to now only be better than the 360 and ps3 but they need to be on par with the next generation. I couldnt belive how awful madden and COD looked on the wii and I had to hear so many people laugh at the ps2 like graphics. Nintendo has a chance to get a real lead into the next gen war and they got to step it up! I mean...i know tons of people who would never drop 300 bucks on a new system that pretty much looks the same as the 360/ps3. I love nintendo and I have always wanted an HD machine that I can not only enjoy my Mario and zelda but also my sports and shooters.....I just hope this is it!!! Please Nintendo, go above and beyond and show those hardcore gamers that nintendo owns sony and microsoft.

Graphically, I don't think the jump from this gen to next is going to be that big. Wii U may be the weakest next gen, but in terms of graphics, it won't be like Wii to PS3/360.

Actually, I think it would be nice if the Wii U didn't have any increase in graphical power. Nintendo is very much a company driven by their history and nostalgia. I think that having low graphical power is one of the best ways to give the players this feeling of nostalgia. Also, by not being very powerful, we get a much cheaper console. The Wii has shown that being cheaper than the competition is one of the most important factors when determining the success of a console.

I think the Dreamcast comparison from that certain developer was good. At least, that's what I'm thinking/hoping it to be.

Dreamcast was the weakest of all the 6th gen consoles, but could still keep up with the others. I think the Wii U will be the least powerful of nextgen (obviously) but I have faith in Nintendo that it will be powerful enough to gain that third party support they're trying to get.

I agree to the dreamcast thing. I would deff be ok with that. I member dreamcast came out and I just thought it was so cool. The graphics blew the n64 and ps1 out of the water. I would be happy with that

Surprisingly, I am NOT as tired of this kind of earnest plea from gamers as I am from Ninty fanboys pretending that they don't know what people mean by "hardcore", and then insulting them or insinuating that they are immature for pointing out the obvious fact that the majority of people who spend money on and play games enthusiastically (in the US, at least) are FAR more excited about Xbox360 games than they are about Wii games.

COME ON... everyone knows that when someone says "hardcore gamer" they mean "gamer that likes the games that it is currently fashionable to like" - games like Call of Duty. And for whatever reason, these really are the games that people want, and the games that they will pay for. There is nothing inherently WRONG with liking Call of Duty - just like there is nothing inherently immature about preferring a beautiful, rich aesthetic experience to... well, what the Wii offers.

Now, if someone comes out and says "Skyward Sword is a terrible game, and its graphics suck... I much prefer Modern Warfare 3 because its graphics are better" then please go ahead and school them for their obvious inability to appreciate artistic styling and depth of play experience. Otherwise... can we please be charitable to the intention of the poster?

What are you talking about? When I say "hardcore gamer" I am talking about people who LOVE graphics and play stricly games like COD and Gears and would never touch a Mario gameor a nintendo 1st party game. I want this system to have it all for everyone. It will have the great nintendo games from Mario to SSB to Zelda and it will also have Ghost Recon and COD and it will look good to. Come on, the graphics on the Wii were terrible for any games aside from nintendo 1st party titles. Anyone can sit here and say" I dont care about graphics" and thats fine but when you play MLB 2k11 or COD on there it looks like a game made in 2003. I just dont want people playing these games 2 years from now in 2014 and say wow..these games look like 2007. This is the one key thing Nintendo lacked. They have a chance to fix it

Like I said before you want better graphics get a PC. I choose my consoles depending on which one has more games I like playing. Specially since Sony and Nintendo products get the Monster Hunter series. Microsoft won't get a Monster Hunter game on their console (outside of Japan) any time soon, so I'm never getting their consoles unless they get a Monster Hunter Exclusive (outside of Japan). If you have seen any Monster Hunter game their visuals aren't the best.

I am not asking for these amazing out of the world graphics....its a next gen system so...I am expecting something better than what we see now. Thats it. Not asking for much here haha

I really think the wii U is Nintendo's first entry into this generation of consoles with hardware comparable to 360 and PS3 and I'm happy with that as I love Nintendo games and it will still be many times more powerful than the original wii.

I think a lot of people's expectations are too high for wii U and hope they aren't disappointed when they see the games and what the console is capable of.

What does it matter what hardcore gamers play?
They're the people who have been playing games for more than 3 years, and not just because their friends do it.

I dont think it will be in last because at the rate Sony is going I think that the PS4 is and then the next Xbox will be the powerhouse with the Wii U comparably close to the PS4.

Why do people always seem to expect Nintendo consoles to have the least power? This is the first generation, If I am not mistaken, in which the Nintendo console has been the weakest.

Where I live, the Wii was regarded as the best console... At least, until 2009 when Modern Warfare 2 came out and the unholy power that drives people toward Call of Duty changed everything. I'm one of the very few people in my school who still play Wii, but I do have a PS3.
I have to ask though: why do people who have the PS3 and 360 ONLY play Call of Duty without even touching the great exclusives like Ratchet, Jak, God of War, LittleBigPlanet, and Gears of War?
