I'm starting to get pretty excited for this game. I tried a couple of weapons and concluded that my weapon of choice will be the sword & shield. I can't wait to play with some of you guys.

Sword and Shield is pretty elemental heavy. That said, it may not pay off earlier in the game, where something like a Lance or Greatsword is stronger. Then again, I don't have Ultimate, so I don't know how the structure of quests is like.

Trophy Cards are classy too! LOLZIGZAGOON

i just beat the Plesioth. i feel so accomplished. i was down to my last 2 minutes or so when he was limping and i was moving slower than a turtle since it was underwater until he finally went on land, THEN I KILLED THAT MOFO. may i remind you i didn't even faint once! (Long sword is still my favorite weapon)

The 3D of the 3DS is very good, its just the fact the game looks horrible...

My favorite is the switchaxe! It ust feels so good! I love the 'axe' which is lighter but you can transform it in t a Long sword! I don't get the loading system though!

Hello! My name is Kao and I am a Kangaroo! If you can see my kicking picture there, you can see me riding one of mine friends! I am quite popular in the area because I saved alot of animals turning in to women accsesories. It was quite painfull on the way, but I liked the experience! I plan on buying a plane with all my money I got and going on an adventure on the isles. My first adventure was when that Mcguffin Hunter cought me, but I escaped, and I don't want to let any animal in pain! What's your story, mate?

No, it doesnt.

The commercial retail game is 100% asset identical between wii u and 3ds. Same models, same textures, same shaders, same geometry, same everything.

The only difference is resolution.

I downloaded the demo on my Wii U, and there were a couple things I didn't really like, but I'm not sure if it was just the demo or not.  I'm still on the fence about getting it...

Does anyone know if the load time between areas is actually in game? Cause I feel like that would just be awful, the times weren't long or anything, I just did not expect them at all, I thought it was a big open world.

And maybe it was just cause I was using the sword and shield, but it almost felt clunky and slow. Is that typical MH combat?

I wonder if the Wii U would be able to render more then one zone at a time of it had 8gb of GDDR5 ram.

Just saying.

I wouldn't be surprised if it could do it as is. This is simply the set up that Capcom has always used for maps in the Monster Hunter franchise, all the way back to the first on the PS2. If you want a game that looks to be shaking that system up, you should just look at Monster Hunter 4 for the 3DS.

And the geometry, and the monster models, and the npc models, and the lighting, and the shading, and completely changed the game engine.

for the 3ds remake.

MonsterHunter-Portable3rd-Aug23-01.jpg

This is the ps3 version. Completely untouched from the psp game, just upscaled. UNANIMOUSLY lauded as 'a remarkable transition to consoles'.

http://www.playstati...ion-to-console/

But remake the game completely combining two gen 3 games for a more powerful handheld.... and its lazy.

I wonder if the Wii U would be able to render more then one zone at a time of it had 8gb of GDDR5 ram.

Just saying.it is a 3ds game, which is a remake of a psp game which is a stripped down port of a wii game, you freaking morons.

There are load times between areas in the full game.  However they are short, as you noticed.  Usually having separate areas in the game is to your benefit in a fight, as it gives you somewhere safe to go if you need to use items.

It's not really an open world game per se.  In between quests, your character spends time in Moga Village during singleplayer, or Tanjia Port (I think thats what it is called) during multiplayer.  These act as your base of operation.  There you buy and sell items, forge and equip different equipment, take on quests, and in the village there are a couple other things you can do.  When you go to do a quest, you walk up to the guild sweetheart behind the counter, and she will give you a list of all quests you have access to.  If you believe you are prepared, you press accept on the quest you want, then walk over to the departure point and press "A".  At which point there WILL be a loading screen, in the demo I timed about 9 seconds.  After which, you will be brought to the hunting zone.  This is where the demo starts you off.  The demo has two of the hunting zones, the tundra for the lagombi, and the deserted island for Plesioth.  The deserted island is where most of your first quests take place.  Don't worry, it will be a long time before you have to fight that Plesioth.

Lastly, the sword and shield (SnS) is the second fastest weapon in the game I'd say, you just don't know the rhythm yet.  Here's a good video showing how to fight.  This guy does a lot of demonstration and tutorial videos:

I highly recommend watching his videos to show you the basics of using any weapon.  However, bombs are expensive and not worth bringing to use on most monsters.  Since they give bombs to you in demo though there's no reason not to use them.  Fyi, only small barrel bombs explode on their own, so they are usually used to detonate the large barrel bombs.

Its the games medis who keeps perpetrating the erroneous idea that monster hunter is open world.

The media constantly uses the term 'monster hunter clone/mix' everytime an open world rpg with large creatures pop up.

The most recent offense was with monolith softs reveal of X. I dont think i found a SINGLE article that didnt say the game was a monster hunter clone. There were more articles that compared it to monster hunter than there were that said xenoblade.

Its really frusterating.

No wonder guys like him thought the game was open world. The media is CONSTANTLY pitching monster hunter as open world because they are incompetent and dont actually know what they are talking about.
