Iwata spoke about broadening of the third-party development possibilities on Wii U. Specifically, he mentioned making HTML5 and other web-engines available for development after the success of the Unity Engine on the Wii U. One of the developers I broached the possibility of bringing their game to Wii U or 3DS was actually working with an HTML5 engine and that was an obstacle for them. However, with HTML5 soon to be supported that shouldn’t be a hurdle anymore.

I'm thinking we will eventually win over the tird parties also. Nintendo just needs to show them that the Wii U is not too daunting to work with.

it really isn't that hard according to a lot of developers. It's just that Nintendo is always the leading when it comes to showing off tech.
