Hmm I am confused as to what we are voting on as maybe others are too after reading their input.

 

Are we voting on our favorite system this gen? You typed box, which I took as system or device but then I see you posted a bunch of games you like from the different systems. I also then saw the poll header, Best Packaging ....

 

Then it dawned on me.. are you talking about favorite box art? Cause the poll may be no good then :P

 

Clarify. 


I believe the X1 and PS4 have had a great year with releases such Forza (which is really fun), halo 5 (killer online if your into that kind of stuff), Rare Replay, and on the ps4 side there was Bloodborne and Until Dawn (both are fantastic games) and Helldivers which is a great co op game. There is also the timed exclusive Tomb Raider for X1 which I have yet to play but I'm guessing it's good. Also the third party suppor for each system is awesome with games like Witcher 3, Batman, Fallout 4, etc.

As far as Nintwndo goes, the wiiu has been hurting due to the third party support(nothing new) but Mario Maker is killer and hopefully X can live up to the hype(at least my hype). I haven't touched the 3ds this year so I can't comment (although I want to play Zelda tho).

For the most part I'll give a tie for X1 and PS4 (although I might be leaning PS4 but idk).

As a whole though I'd say the 3ds wins easily but the X1, PS4 and Wiiu would battle for the second spot (which probably would go to wiiu due to it having more years under its belt). Still by this time next year the ps4 and X1 will probably have as many awesome exclusives and awesome 3rd party support which then this conversation will be really tough.

 

I've gotta say, I've gotten a little more playtime on my 3DS than my Wii U this year.

New IP's are good, it gives the designers a bit more flexibility because there isn't some ingrained standard or expectation regarding gameplay/content that you get with an IP that has been around for decades. We all know how Splatoon came to be, inside a dev "Garage" that was creating all sorts of prototypes and ideas. Not necessarily to create a new IP, but to create new gameplay mechanics and ideas which matured into an IP.

 

It seems Nintendo has restructured itself in a way that it can work on new ideas and gameplay while other studios work with Nintendo's current IP catalog.

 

Sorry but you are not going to like the replies to this. But I will DM you my thoughts

 

and what? why don't you just post it here lol. I think The Doctor can handle other peoples responses. 


Oh, and for a simple answer to your question OP. YES they NEED new IP's even if just for the sake of creativity and experimentation.

Between my ps4 and wii u.
I play the ps4 much more but I do have a few more games on the wii u then the ps4 tho.

I don't own an x1, and don't plan on it since there isn't anything on it worth it to me.

But with the ps4 there are games that won't ever come to the wii u and I just gotta have (battlefield, mgs, gta, etc...)
But then same for the wii u. Kirby , smash bro, mario etc..


So I guess I'm in between.
I think it just depends on what type of gamer you are as to which system would have the most games

I wouldn't have minded to see a new 3D Zelda game on the 3DS rather than MM, I understand why they did that though since they're so busy with Zelda U.

I just wanna see more new ideas though...

You must have like super human eyes or something, it was near impossible to see any little details due to the lighting and the fact that it wasn't focused on the TV that much.


They arent tiny details, they are kind of large structures, given away by blatant design changes in the scenery around them, ie paths and clearings to get to them. I think it would be pretty easy to miss them if looking for tiny pixel details, instead of more big picture, like missing the forest for the trees or something.

Im pretty good at finding that kind of stuff, its literally the founding mechanic of my favourite genre and design style. Honestly, people who cant yet do that are probably in the 'sweet spot' where the impact of stumbling upon, and discovering, and getting adept at finding things will be the greatest. So what REALLY grinds my gears are these obnoxious crappers who think they know SO MUCH, miss EVERYTHING and complain about the game not having things. The whole POINT of the schopl of design zelda was founded on (and the 3d games destroyed) was the excitement and sense of accomplishment that came with FINDING things, which means no neon signs pointing them out, no painfully obvious cutscene introduced, step by step forced walkthrough. Its not obvious, its not supposed to be obvious, and thats the point.

People just VASTLY over estimate their abilities, thinking they are geniuses at game design, when they actually know jack crap. In fact they know so little, they LITERALLY can not begin to comprehend the knowledge it would take for them to REALIZE how ignorant they are. Straight up text book dunning kroger:

Super Mario, each game has a different story that makes it so unique and different from the last.

I was trying to get people who looked or acted like us. Samuel L is an awesome actor. I thought you would be honored to be played by him. It's no worse than me saying Sorceror was Johnny Depp and 3Dude was Brad Pitt. No racial discrimination was intended, and I don't think I treated you any worse than anyone else.

Lol you know i'm kidding right? If anything it makes sense for a black person to play me since I'm, y'know, black.

 

But yeah my facourite black actor is probably Terry Crews, so I'll take him over Samuel Jackson and Sidney Potier. Especially since it'll make ever one think I'm buff as heck.
