OK so I got really really really bored today and decided to look at some patents on the US patent website. I looked some up from several companies and finally decided to look at some of Nintendo's. There were a bunch about computing and software stuff that is unable to be understood. Yet this one caught my eye, take a look at this patent and this specific image, a possible response to some of Kinect's features?
The image (which is large) shows a handheld like device that responds to a persons voice commands. I see no reason why the software couldn't be used on Wii u for similar actions to the Kinect's voice commands, as the gamepad has a built in microphone.
The patent was filed in 2005, So that means that Nite do could just use it on the Wii u for voice commands.

looks more like something to stop competition.  its a patent for a spacific way to use voice commands, probly wont stop kenect but will likly hinder the xbox1 slightly by forcing it to use more power to understand voice commands, assuming microsoft hasnt found a better way to recenize voiceocommands.

Been saying for a while that Wii U is perfectly suited for voice commands.  Perhaps more so than Kinect, since the mic is closer.

The speed at which inputs from the controller process on the Wii U means instant go.

Nintendo will likely implement this soon.

But they have been so ambitious in building an online ecosystem/multimedia hub OS that they probably very simply haven't had time yet. They have contracted partners, but those partners have been insanely busy. LOL

A handheld

with a focus on voice commands

a handheld

Because everyone wants to shout at their handheld gaming system on the go!

That aside, imagine playing Mario with voice commands, "JUMP GO LEFT GO RIGHT JUMP FIREBALL FIREBALL JUMP JUMP JUMP FIREBALL JUMP LEFT RIGHT JUMP".

I could see this being used in the next Mario Party (I recall some of the Gamecube ones using a microphone). Didn't NintenDogs use some kind of voice command system to interact with your pet (i.e "Fetch!" "Sit!" "Roll over!" etc.)?

I think these voice commands could work really well in the games if used wisely and properly. Waiting to see such games consisting of these voice commands.

Imagine this, "Wii U, turn on the TV" and the TV remote feature pops up and turns the TV on. That'd be awesome. Then you could tell it to change the channel etc as well.

Too bad you'd have to keep the GamePad facing the TV at all times, but I'd happily do that in return for TV voice commands.
