I thought the custom UI was interesting too, but how does that work exactly? Does everyone with the new 3DS get the choice of theme or do they get a code with the custom case?
Also, is that little thing above the ABXY buttons the second analog stick...? If so, damn that seems weird.

The themes you will be able to download and goes for all versions of 3DS. It's still not as good as Vita where I can use any wallpaper I want but hey it's still very welcome. This puts it closer to PS3 level.
I hope Wii U is not to far behind.

Think that's how every company does it. At least in gaming. But that's just what I've heard from the people I know in Britain.
Eh I'll just keep mine then. Killed me to trade in my DS lite for my 3DS anyway.
Starting price for 3ds xl was 18,900 yen,199.99$ and 230€. If they follow the same tactic the new 3ds xl will be 230€ in the eurozone countries, which is a lot of money.

That 2nd stick (c stick) works very similar to the mouse control on ibm think pads. it should be quite accurate and it doesn't take much movement to cover a lot of screen area.
That is the impression I get anyways

As long as there's a Metroid theme I'll be happy. (Please don't forget Metroid again Nintendo :c)
I always enjoy customising my devices, whether it be my (Android) phone and tablet or a handheld gaming system. Shame there's usually very minimal UI customisation on Nintendo systems but this is indeed an improvement, but like you said it's not Vita or PSP level customisation yet unfortunately.

Hmm maybe. I've only used one of those maybe once before so I can't really say how confident I am that it will work well, guess I'll just have to try it for myself.

I was thinking about that too. I wonder if they are free or if you have to pay for them, I was thinking like 1 dollar price if you have to pay. I want the regular New Nintendo 3DS. And I can't wait to get that Peach and Isabelle faceplate.

Also did anyone notice how many times Iwata said New Nintendo 3DS in the direct? You can play a damn drinking game with how many times he said it's name.
Special thanks to Horchata. I appreciate it so much.

So instead of presenting a true next gen of Nintendo portable they choose to change gradually.
I wonder if the New 3ds won't raise to many questions with consumers. And marketingwise, they do the wii-wiiu thing all over again. Choosing a name that sounds like an update, which it is not.
Just to make my point clear, you can't play true NEW 3ds games on your 3ds, which is more than a simple upgrade.

That NEW 3ds is WiiU all over again. It won't be long before Nintendo will start to push more and more NEW 3ds ONLY games. With the Wii cataloque in mind and also possibility to dev for both WiiU as NEW 3ds will result in making the old 3ds obsolete.

Except this isn't actually supposed to be their next gen system. While the changes are significant, there's no question this still resembles the 3DS more than it doesn't. It doesn't warrant a whole new identity.

I only use those on lower quality Windows laptops, I can't use the touchpads on them anymore. Once you go mac, you can never go bac k

This looks to me like a new DSi kind of thing. There were exclusive games on it, but not tons.
Speaking of exclusives, perhaps they could port more Wii games like Xenoblade? It seems like the systems are pretty similar now, it can't be that hard can it?

It's not a new handheld. It's Game Boy Color/Nintendo DSI situation. They will phase out 3DS and XL with these new ones in stores.
All that's going to happen. It's not Nintendo's next Handheld. DSi and GBC had better specs and only certain games were able to be played on it.
For the moment it's created a divide on the internet but in time once in stores that divide be greatly smaller. It annoys me as well but this is nothing like Wii U.

I meant, giving it a better, more recognisable name. So that people even see the need to upgrade and see the difference when picking up games. Gamboy advance and ds had very different names. This seems like and upgrade but I guess within one year we'll have lots of NEW3DS only titlesIt's not a new handheld. It's Game Boy Color/Nintendo DSI situation. You can say that. Yet, my kids have both a 3ds xl, and i'm afraid that in ayear from now, most game WILL be New3ds only. So by then I 'll need to upgrade. This is what I normally see as a next gen. That's what I say with, This NEW stuff is just a camouflage.
Well let's hope that won't be the case, as that would truly be screwing over the owners of older systems.
Off-topic, I like your profile pic. When did you change it to that? It's kinda creepy really hahaha, like it's hitting on me
