Plus it sounds less 'strange' to people. Apple called their second iPad 'iPad 2'. It's just more logical to do.
If they were to discard the Wii brand, call it Stream. I think it works, however I don't imagine myself saying "I'm gonna play on my Stream" . Maybe it helps to put the name in line with other console names

Stream, eventually, maybe doesn't work also because it's just a word. It's just a simple word, nothing more. Other names were more unique. Not that Wii 2 sounds that unique, but it's a logic continuation of NES > SNES.
I think I'd go with Wii 2. Wii U doesn't sound next-gen enough.
