    Playing my Wii U!

Posted 19 October 2012 - 02:36 AM

I haven't pre-ordered and did the right thing of waiting and seeing. This is really a poor performance from Nintendo, what ever happened to them stepping up with their online. This is one of the reasons why Nintendo isn't an option for most gamers on other platforms, they clearly are doing it wrong, if this rumour is true.

I just came off from the GoNintendo forums and the comments we're the most one sided Nintendo fanboy comments I have ever seen, stuff like "I don't care about multiplayer, so no problem for me". What strikes me, if this rumour is true, there's a whole 1GB of RAM for the OS, for Mii Verse, but yet how can it not have the support for a system wide voice chat option. I doubt Nintendo are that stupid to not think about system wide voice chat, the box has something written about Wii U chat. I guess we'll find out in a month, but if this rumour is true, then how am I supposed to take Nintendo seriously if they can't get system wide voice chat on their console that has more memory than the 360 and PS3 (where the 360 has party chat, and don't give me the excuse of PS3 doesn't have it too, we're in 2012, PS3 was made in 2006, the reason why it isn't in PS3 is because there isn't enough RAM).

How is Nintendo supposed to capture the other gamers that play on PS3 and 360, especially since 360 users are enjoying party chat. Even the PS Vita has cross game chat. If I can't see Nintendo getting serious with this new console (lack of information, a month away from release and still no idea how online works) then how are others, cosidering I was a potential launch day buyer for this console.

That's the unfortunate thing about Nintendo. They're all about secrets and surprises. I really wish they would actually talk about their products in more detail.

About the rumor:

What I don't understand is why the headsets will be required to plug into the gamepad. Why not plug into the console via USB like the other 2 systems? It would make much more sense and would be a LOT easier for chatting.

As for the select titles... Does that actually matter? Wouldn't it be up to the developer to put game chat on anyway? But I still think Nintendo should put some form of party chat on the Wii U. Xbox 360 has been doing since (2008?). This is one of the few downsides I see for getting the Wii U. Still not nearly enough for me to cancel my pre-order.

Off Topic:

After finally playing it yesterday, I can finally give a full, honest and truthful opinion on the GamePad. It's wonderful and not cheap feeling. Nintendo continues to make high quality products. :)

So is it confirmed there is no cross game chat? And what about bluetooth headsets?

Look at this quote

“The Wii U supports Bluetooth and can pair with its own accessories,” she said over e-mail, “but the officially licensed headsets we produce and offer are wired and designed for use directly with the [GamePad] tablet.”

that's frome Turtle Beach. So while their headset is only for the Gamepad, there could be bluetooth support.

This isnt remotely close to all the info, its ign speculation created from a severe lack of information, passing poor speculation off in the context of confirmed fact.

Its typical ign shenanigans.

Heres the problems. Rich gives no source, no name. Whos saying this? Iwata? Reggie? silly pony floor rep who said the thing was 19x more powerful than ps3? That @$$ hat who answers all the emails, but must have completely failed reading comprehension because responses almost NEVER have anything to do with what you sked? This is like, F material for a highschool journalism assignment. I cant believe these hacks actually get paid. These are the basic fundamentals of journalism, this incompetence is staggering.

Aside from this, the article has no context, we can clearly tell there is a lot more to whoever said whatever than the cherry picked snips ign took. This is probably why there is no source, as context can change the meaning behind words, when viewed in the native context, probably expose igns loaded narrative for the crock it is.

Why cant we look at the entire announcement from a link in your article ign? Why cant you say who made the statement ign?

This is probably why ign failed to sell and is getting auctioned off. Nobody wants to buy a pos 'news site' that would fail highschool assignments.

Now for some actual speculation.

If you notice, the games with the developer end solutions named are all 360/ps3 ports.

These games were written for the 360/ps3 and their chat services, they are simply being ported to the wii u, by tiny teams, some as small as just 5 dudes. A jerry rigged solution is all they can do with those resources. If wii u DID have a proprietary in game chat large sections of the code would need to be altered to support it.

This screams quick fix, not permanent solution.s

As for the pro controller, i guess that could be an oversight, but just get the inevitable bluetooth headset.

The system has an entire Gigabyte of ram devoted to system tasks like voice chat.

I dont put any stock in this garbage 'journalism' that cant even tell us who exactly said this, nor provide a link to the actual source of the announcement.

About USB audio, PS3 is the only system that does chat over USB, The Xbox 360 has a 2.5mm jack that connects into the controller for voice chat. I should have asked the Turtle beach guy about that but that never crossed my mind. In a system update it's likely to be included.

Regarding the build quality of the game pad, I found it cheap, used it at eurogamer, it was cheap and so was the pro controller (that controller is very light). I'm put off purchasing because theirs nothing yet that I would like to play by purchasing the console.

It's a next year purchase for me, as it would be cheaper (not price drop, but at a system launch, retailers try to make the most profit by not making bundles here in the UK e.g. get some free or cheaper when you multi purchase. Also that wii U game prices for new games launching (not third party games that have already been released on other platforms) are slightly higher, again it's for that same reason because new system purchases at launch will want to those games and retailers would capitalise on them) and I would have a clearer idea of what the system can actually do and of course games like Pikmin, MH3, Bayonetta 2(hopefully) will be out and other games that will be announced will hopefully launch holiday 2013. That's my reasoning an hoping for a MH3 bundle, if there is then Im buying one in march.

I agree, 2 GB of ram on a console and Nintendo decide not to have voice chat??? I really don't understand what Nintendo are doing, And after all the talk about how Nintendo are going to make a console with great online features too. Sure, Miiverse will probably be cool, but think about how much we actually know about it. It could turn out to be lower than people's expectations.
I hope this is not true, and from what I know it was told by a Nintendo rep. What he said was a vague answer by a Nintendo rep In my opinion. And once again we have people taking this as pure fact and Nintendo fanboys defending it <_<
whatever it turns out to be true or false Its not going to stop me buying it. But it is sad to hear Nintendo disappointing us.

If this is not true I think the Nintendo rep could have made it more clear.
Maybe this is only true for people who are not your friends and are just random people who are in the same game? And with your friends you can talk to them whenever.

Why does it matter if it's official? Official products in general are too overpriced.

This statement is false. The previous statement is true.

RIP in peace Nintendo.

Lol yes, and seriously. They need to have a real ranking system. Rank from the number 1 player in the world all the way down to whatever number. Not just everyone listed 9999

The quality is always way better with first party stuff for instance i would never buy a third party controller cause they are junk compared to first party.

^This. I don't know why they are reporting what a nintendo rep is saying. One recently had stated that the Wii U is 19x more powerful than the PS3. No.
