As for the NPCs, have you been paying attention to Groose? Or any of the residents of Skyloft that your doing sidequests for? If you really pay attention, you can notice quite a bit of their personality being reviled.

It isn't as strong as Majora's mask, but it sure as heck gives it a run for it's money. Majora's Mask's characterization also gets a boost from the 3 day cycle, allowing you to see them at different times.
