#307585 Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Thread: Hunting Intensifies

Posted by Lightning_Ninja on 25 January 2015 - 06:44 PM

OK, the weapon guides are all updated.

Except I haven't written the insect glaive section yet cause I have to write it from scratch.

Dang it, maybe tomorrow.  Just not enough time in the day.

Edit:  All guides are updated and IG section added.  Can't wait for the game now.

Also added a section linking to the blogs from the localization director about how the English names were decided.  Good stuff.

#308032 metroid prime trilogy wii u

Posted by tboss on 02 February 2015 - 12:58 PM

I enjoyed the game more using motion controls, only other FPS control skeme i would take with it is keyboard mouse.

as for actually how to use motion controls, they require more getting used too, fiddling with settings, as well as positioning than any other controller. It is usually a good idea to rest your arm/hand on something to add stability. have the settings on high for trilogy, and get used to it. It is a very good control scheme, with precision comparable to keyboard/mouse, and as 3dude said, very underutilized, thanks to the laser pointer only being on wii, with the PS3 replicate using true motion for its FPS's which is terrible to ir/laser pointer aiming in comparison.

As for the games themselves, the biggest downgrade i saw was the lack of the original 3 games menu music. prime 1, 2, and 3 had great music, trilogy has one separate song, though good, doesn't hold up to the better tracks, and their is no option to use the menu music from prime 1/2/3.  Besides that the water fx, and gun effects are noticeable but the effects where in no way detrimental, so minor and best, and definitely a worthwhile trade for IR aiming and quicker doors. The only thing that really bothered me graphically was the lack of AA in prime 3, among that games other issues dropping it well below the other 2 games.

Now that i think about it, i want to see a 3D metroid with a similar team to dark souls for map design. That game did better than most metroid games in metroidvainia map design, a overworld more similar to what we got there than say prime 3 or another linear game would help greatly.

#308025 New Xenoblade Chronicles X fan-made cover

Posted by uPadWatcher2 on 05 February 2015 - 09:47 PM

Since that didn't bode very well for me, I've decided to create a different look at the cover art.  This time, it's from a promo box cover at a Japanese store.

No comment huh?  But STILL... thanks for giving me likes.  Let's hope that the cover is finalized by Nintendo worldwide.

Monolith soft is doing a japan direct like stream on the 6th, should be similar to the smash directs in that sense. Currently don't know if there will be a English version of the stream.

xenoblade-chronicles-x-blue-shadow.jpgWhen I was a kid, I used to purposely stop playing games just as I reached a new town or area. That night, I’d lie awake in bed, my thoughts consumed by the adventures that awaited me. I imagined getting lost in a strange and mysterious forest, or spending hours exploring a dusty castle basement. Eventually, I’d succumb to sleep, dreaming of the games I’d play the next day.

Reality never lived up to my over-detailed fantasies, but that didn’t really bother me. Deep down, I understood that the things I daydreamed about weren’t actually possible. I could accept the limitations of gaming; I just wanted to pretend they didn’t exist for one night.

Over the years, those limitations have started to fade away. The 16-bit landscapes I grew up exploring have turned into impressive 3D worlds. Characters have actual faces and bear some resemblance to living, breathing people. Sometimes, I watch trailer for a new game and feel like I’ve fallen into the uncanny valley.

But when I watch the new Xenoblade Chronicles X trailer, I feel like I’m curled up in my old childhood bed, daydreaming myself to sleep.

I’d like to say that the game replicates my childhood reveries, but my imagination was never this good. This blows my old fantasies out of the water, replacing them with wonders you could never find on earth. The environments are gorgeous, the monsters are marvelous, and the lovely little details make my jaw drop.

I know I shouldn’t be all that surprised by the beauty of Xenoblade Chronicles X. I’ve played Xenoblade Chronicles, and that was full of amazing environments. But even when I take that into consideration, I can’t believe that this is a world I’m going to explore. I still feel like I’m going to wake up, turn on my console, and discover it was all just a wonderful dream.

xenoblade-chronicles-x-running.jpgBut Xenoblade Chronicles X is completely and utterly real. I’ve played this trailer several times, pinching myself the whole way through, and I haven’t woken up once. I’m going to get the chance to run through those dandelions, to jump off those massive cliffs. Unless the world suddenly ends or Nintendo gets eaten by a dinosaur, this is a game I will hold in my ends.

The last Xenoblade Chronicles X trailer was a little underwhelming, but I’ve been blown away all over again. This is the kind of game my dreams would dream about. Someday — hopefully soon — I’m going to be able to immerse myself in this magical, mech-filled world.

And I still can’t really believe that.

Texture this game is FULL of a crazy variety of textures.

One of the first thinks I noticed. That's a TON of paint.

Even Destiny reuses a lot of textures and in Some areas takes the color palette really low.

But it till uses a ton of textures.

X however seems like and endless deluge of very large and variable graphics assets.

One of the more impressive things is looking down at the map from a high distance and not being able to notice texture tiles. That's huge. Try that with Skyrim and the like. Big difference.
Taking massive textures like that, the geometry, ai, scripting, collision detection, blighting, audio, etc... And fitting into aRam a with no loading... Whoa. That's dome serious load and memory management going on.

These guys deserve big sales just for being geniuses. Not to mention what's dhaping up to be a stellar game.

#307680 Xenoblade Chronicles X famitsu interview: Map is 400km squared

Posted by Soxviper on 27 January 2015 - 03:27 PM

For anyone wondering, this is incorrect. 400 sq km is actually about 150 sq miles.
Also, Xenoblade couldn't have been more than 30 sq miles, and is very likely quite a bit less.
I actually made an account just to say that. XD it was  bothering me that someone was spreading so much misinformation to so many people. It's still pretty big nonetheless.

One more thing, Fuel, Daggerfall, and Just Cause 2 are all procedurally generated, meaning it's the same textures and terrain, but in different sizes and places. Xenoblade X and Zelda U are both handcrafted, and therefore more detailed and natural, a truly open world.

#301582 Golden Sun was a great game

Posted by BrosBeforeGardenTools on 01 November 2014 - 12:52 AM

Rarely do I say this, but Golden Sun 1 for GBA was so good, it helped me get over a teenage depression. It is like The Last Story (for the characterization and innovation) and Earthbound (for the battle mechanics and innovation) rolled into one. That's not to say Golden Sun: The Lost Age wasn't also good. The only questionable game in the series was the DS tribute, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn.

Golden Sun is available on the Wii U eShop. It's a shame that it's direct sequel, The Lost Age, isn't on the eShop yet.

#307572 Van Damme kicks in Xenoblade Chronicles X!

Posted by tboss on 25 January 2015 - 11:10 AM

... is Van Damme wearing crouch armor?  His design looks great until you notice that, though it shouldn't be surprising compared to some of the armor in the last game.

Other then that, design looks good for him Irina.

Also don't get 3dude's derp face problem. Lyn's make's since considering her in game age. Elma looks like spray-can tans and bleach blond got stereotyped as american, which contrasts greatly from the limited back story we heard so far =/. Id can see it if we see it on alot more characters and the game tries to tell us they are 20+.
