I know the Wii U can't run Blu-ray but can it run DVDs? I just think that'd be very convenient instead of having to use my Xbox 360 for DVDs.

Or of course, just using my DVD player to watch DVDs. :)

Theoretically, Wii U can run blue-rays and dvds, but Nintendo doesn't want to pay for the licensing fees.

That sucks. I wish Nintendo would make support for DVDs on their consoles for once.

Funny that they have Netflix on there, but we can't play DVD's. I'm not bothered anyway, I have a PS3 and Xbox 360 I could use.

I have sold my Wii U, so if I deleted you from NN before I sold it, or haven't accepted your friend request since, this is why.

Nintendo has always wanted to emphasize the idea that their consoles are for gaming related stuff only.

Err, in a sense that goes toward the video games. I see this as more of a convenience thing.

You can hack the Wii and unlock that feature, so I assume that would be eventually available for the Wii U. I haven't watched a DVD in over a year to be honest however...

It can run high quality games so technically it should be able to run DVDs but if you put a disk in I think it just says invalid disc.

Nope and good too, it saved us a bit of money and I already have 3 DVD players I don't need a fourth.

All you gotta do is put a disc in and if it says invalid disc then dont bother taking it out just stick another one in.... keep doing this abd it will work eventually, sometimes it takes up to 3 or 4 discs... trust me I work at family video

I have a Wii, and I've succeeded to play DVDs on my Wii with the help of this guide:
http://www.aolor.com...dvd-on-wii.html

3 methods are introduced. Though it's for Wii, but I think it will also be helpful for Wii U users.

New here, but hope it helps.
