the specs of my current laptop are

• Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
• 2 processor cores
• 298 GB hard drive
• normal CD/DVD player
• NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS
• Intel PRO/1000 PL adapter
• 1440x900 display

 

The laptop im about to ask my family for as a graduation present is called

this is a minor improvement from the prior version and an even greater improvement from the laptop i have now

 

this has been changed from what I had prior, what i had prior to this laptop was worse by far

Yes, I looked into that and apparently i am able to set it to "desk top" mode rather then having a touch screen version

 

I also looked for the option to change it to windows 7 ultimate but windows 8 and windows 8 pro were the only options

Yea, everything is good but windows 8, My current computer has windows 8, I hate 8, It is absolutely horrible.

i might be able to have my dad install windows 7 ultimate on it

If the original was 8GB in one slot I'd keep it at that.
2x4 won't give you 3 times the data rate.
1 slot filled will give you upgradability in the future.

Also, calm all your boobs, windows 8 isn't a problem.
Only the really crappy stuff stops working, and you can disable metro ui.
