The way they did it last time was, there were 3 tournaments in 3 different places. Los Angeles, San Francisco & Boston, all 256 entrants. The player who won the tourney at each place got a BUNCH of prizes & then a ticket to participate in the finals in NY. Waiting on line was long but funny & the tournament of course had a lot of people. REALLY hope they do it again so that I can join!

Sakurai’s dedicating himself to having all the same playable characters on the Wii U and 3DS versionsof the new Smash Bros., but that could mean that some characters will be cut. Specifically, Mr. Sakurai says that multi-character fighters like the Ice Climbers are causing some difficulty when it comes to development of the 3DS version of the game.
IGN reports that the decision to include or cut characters may be based on how well their unique moves and characteristics translate over from the Wii game to 3DS while maintaining parity on Wii U. That means if the team can’t get these characters to handle just as well on 3DS as they did last-gen, they might not make the roster this time around.
The following is an excerpt from an interview summary by IGN’s Richard George:
On the topic of the roster, Sakurai noted that the 3DS version of the game, with its hardware’s technical limitations, would likely keep the volume of the roster in check, though no characters had been cut so far, and any determination to that effect is a ways away. Which characters ultimately are included will be the result of careful consideration, ranging from which fighters have unique characteristics, equally representing franchises and how signature traits carry over well from previous games like Brawl. Sakurai did tell me that “multiple character” combatants like the Ice Climbers were proving a technical challenge on the 3DS.
Since there’s no cross-platform play between the two titles, do you think it’s really important to keep the same rosters when it comes to characters that they can’t get to work on the 3DS version? Or would you rather see as many characters as possible on Wii U regardless of the handheld version?

As of this post, no one has been cut. Good, Brawl handled the roster well compared to Melee.

You know what would be funny? SSB4 having Crash Bandicoot or Spyro. The sony fans would kill themselves.
Love Crash. He'd make a great SSB character. Too bad saying that it would be a longshot for him to be in Smash 4 is an understatement. But seriously, though, Nintendo. Funky Kong. And no I'm not biased.
I think everyone who has a signature picture should shrink it a little. Easier on the eyes.
The way I see it, flying is simple. You just throw yourself at the ground and miss.

I'm sorry, but that video was ****. I generally didn't agree with any of the characters they would consider to be cut. The only exception I would say is Snake, but that's up to Sakurai and Kojima.

A brand new stage for Super Smash Bros. has been revealed today in a screenshot for the Wii U. In the past few weeks we’ve seen Olimar join the roster, a Super Mario 3D Land stage for the 3DS version, and the gorgeous impact-launch effect screenshot. Now, Sakurai has added a brand new stage, where he teased on Miiverse, “this island looks familiar”. Of course, it’s none other than the Pilotwings stage from the SNES game. It’s good to know that Super Smash Bros. is getting some retro classic love.
