#229945 Nintendo to give out $30 eShop credit with FE: Awakening, Shin Megami Te...

Could be a precursor to a SMTxFE announcement via Nintendo Direct.

#229941 Ubisoft – Zombie U “wasn’t even close to being profitableâ€

Posted by routerbad on 08 July 2013 - 12:18 PM

I think ZombiU Had sales of 450k.

that's just the VGChartz numbers, doesn't include many retailers and doesn't include digital at all.  There was no quote, the author of the article made something up that seemed plausible to him and fit his narrative enough to get clicks.  His editor in chief is happy, the guy brought views to the site, and profit, journalistic integrity be damned.

#228199 Wii u Pro Controller battery in a gamepad?

There is a big difference between buttons and buttons with screen, camera, mic, NFC, sensor bar, etc.  That battery would be dead very quick

#227238 Iwata: More unannounced games coming to Wii U by 2014

Posted by routerbad on 28 June 2013 - 03:33 PM

Yeah heard it all before Iwata. We want results.

You heard Iwata say in the past that there are unannounced titles coming in 2014?  Who'da thunk it?

Of course they have unannounced titles.

And why the tone?  He's at an investor meeting, not in a Nintendo Direct.

#227142 Ubisoft waiting until after Christmas to assess Wii U support

Posted by routerbad on 28 June 2013 - 09:02 AM

I disagree. The PS4 and Xbox One are going to have a far more compelling and varied line up this holiday season then the Wii U. They don't just have FPS, sports and racing games. And its not just about the games but the game playing experience and the ecosystem they have built up from the PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively. Both will sell far more consoles then the Wii U this holiday season. Just reading the reports about the level of preorders indicates that.

Their launch lineups are not going to be any better than the Wii U launch lineup was, and Wii U will have many of the multiplats coming this year from the likes of Ubisoft, WB, etc. as well as several Nintendo exclusives including Sonic, M3DW, Pikmin, W101, DKTF, and a whole host of indie games that have reached their kickstarter goals and are bringing their games to Wii U.  Some of those, like Road Redemption, is next gen exclusive on Wii U.

Also, Wii U preorders were sold out as well, if you remember.  If it hadn't been for the lack of first party titles (they had too many 3rd party games at launch, go figure) the momentum would not have stalled.

#227130 What if in a few years Nintendo made a Wii U RAM Expansion Pak?

Posted by routerbad on 28 June 2013 - 08:41 AM

The WiiU has 1GB for games & the other 1GB is for the OS, so it has twice the amount as the PS3, which is not a lot, the laptop i am using which was £400 has 8GB or GDDR3 & is twelve months old.

The WiiU should of had 5GB, that's 1GB for the OS & 4GB for games, both the PS4 & X1 are said to use a lot of RAM for the OS & other things like Kinect & the game/video streaming, so even if they use half of their 8GB they have 4GB left for games where the WiiU only has 1GB.

Developers & programmers have always wanted more RAM, they always have & always will.

The only way a RAM pack could work is if Nintendo gave everyone the sticks of RAM & had them install it as it's very easy & simple to do, this is for everyone that already has a WiiU & then on a set day release a update that recognises the updated RAM & new WiiU units already have the more RAM installed.

PS3 had, initially, 256MB available for games.  They expanded that later by 70MB.  So no, it has 4X the usable RAM for games, and with a little OS optimization they can free up another 512MB no problem,

Nintendo is always on the cutting edge of cartoon graphics. The Wii U is plenty powerful enough for the next gen of red/ green overalls, giant gorillas, bananas, mini-carts etc.

No one cares if the Wii U can beat the ps3 or 360. The ante as been upped and we all saw it coming. Nintendo knew they were not going to be close to the performance of the next gen but went along anyway with their strategy of living off the popularity of their 25 year old franchises.

I like my Wii U. I don't love it. Consumers are agreeing with me and waiting for real gaming machines this year.

My Wii U will be my Nintendo 1ST party game machine and that is it. Developers know this is how many feel about Nintendo consoles now. We can see the results of this now.

"cartoon graphics" isn't a level of graphical fidelity.  It's an art style, that works for certain games that Nintendo makes, that is all.

The only reason Nintendo every started using a cartoony art style in their 3D games was the lack of RAM and cartridge space in the N64.  They had to use incredibly small textures stretched and blended and blurred over large areas to create environments.

Gamecube did a lot more, TP and Pikmin showed that they were able to create more realistic environments on their hardware.  The characters in those games certainly were not uber realistic, but the environments were incredible.

#226849 Is true JRPGs dying?

Posted by routerbad on 27 June 2013 - 12:29 PM

http://kotaku.com/is...rying-595254819

If Atlus goes under JRPG gaming may be dead as we know it. Face it FF15 is an action game and X lacks true grinding (I'm not saying it's bad i'm just saying it's more adventure based) so without Atlus RPGs will be a thing of the past. It was my favorite genre too. Your thoughts?

Do we really know that X is strictly adventure based?  Also, JRPGs don't only include strategy games.

#225377 why no watchdogs wiiu 360 ps3 footage?

Posted by routerbad on 22 June 2013 - 04:31 PM

The reason is didn't look as "impressive" on the ND was the fact that the video was choppy, leggy, and ridiculously compressed.  It will look the same as the ps4 version as ubisoft have said.  Anyone who still doesnt know that watch dogs x360 and ps3 development begins after Wiiu development is complete, here is your notice.

#224549 Lack of DirectX 11 support blocking Kingdom Hearts III from Wii U

Posted by routerbad on 20 June 2013 - 07:58 AM

3Dude, on 20 Jun 2013 - 11:52 AM, said:Gamecube lost more 3rd party support than any system in nintendo history, except the n64, the most powerful system of its generation.

But yeah, sure powers why nintendo has consistantly had horrible 3rd party support post snes.

They lost 3rd party support because devs did not want to deal with the gamecube small discs. I'm not saying the Wii U is not powerful enough for KH3 but Nintendo will never get 3rd partys if they don't make it convient to program for.

Ubisoft, Warner Bros, and Activision have all said that porting games to WiiU was "a small investment".  It didn't cost much to do, it didn't take much time once developers had tools, and still didn't use much of what the GPU has on offer feature wise.

NFSMWU took two months to port, they didn't rewrite the engine, they just tweaked it to improve the lighting, and added in higher res textures.  All evidence points to Wii U being rather easy to develop for at least for last gen ports, because the CPU can handle everything they are throwing at it.

For next gen titles, they have to actually start using the GPU, which is a much more complicated matter, and apparently Nintendo themselves still don't have the firmest of grasps on it, at least in games they have to show thus far.  So it is easy to develop for, but complicated to optimize currently.  I agree they need to make it more convenient, but it seems they are doing just that, considering that pretty much every developer that ships a title claims Nintendo was very active in supporting them.

#224537 Defending the Xbox One against the hate

Posted by routerbad on 20 June 2013 - 07:45 AM

Even Alex Jones is sane compared to this insane conspiracy theory. I don't even......

In that case why are you on the internet?

I don't get your meaning, and seriously doubt you read what I wrote long enough to comprehend it.

#224533 Defending the Xbox One against the hate

Posted by routerbad on 20 June 2013 - 07:42 AM

I just want to clarify a few things here that people seem unable to pick up through the sludge of sensationalist headlines coming from several media outlets.

NSA was never tapping phones, they were never listening to calls.  The only data available to them was the location of the phone when a call was made and who calls were made to, when they have sufficient evidence against a person who they believe to be involved in a potential terror plot, they can get authorization to wiretap, but they need several layers of probable cause to do so.  The providers only released information based on court order, when there was just cause to subpoena the information.  They can only get this information from American based providers.  If it worries you, switch to T-Mobile.

Microsoft, like every other tech company in the world, has to abide by international law as well as domestic law in the countries in which it operates.  The data collected by Microsoft from Windows and their other services only becomes available through court order, and Microsoft still has the right to refuse requests it deems excessive, unnecessary, or unwarranted.  Most requests for information come from local police authorities, not the federal government.

Kinect is a listening device, and similar to the microphone and camera on your cell phone has the potential to be used against you by malicious people who gain unauthorized access.  Your phone is easier to hack than XBOX, and can give much more information about you, including GPS location, Speed, Direction, and more personal information.  Potential consumers should understand the risks involved with such devices and proceed according to their principles.

#224267 Reggie on Jimmy Fallon

They should have taken W101 and Bayonetta.

#224226 They need to fix their dlc/store IMO.

Posted by routerbad on 19 June 2013 - 02:42 PM

1. Amazon has confirmed that Deathstroke DLC will be available day one for the Wii U version of Arkham Origins.

2. Nintendo has allowed publishers to set price and availability of their content on the eShop.

3. Activision's lack of support for the Wii U version of the game was Activision's decision, not Nintendo's. Furthermore, it had nothing to do with eShop restrictions, policies, etc, which are actually very relaxed compared to both MS and Sony (see 2).

#224099 COD: Ghosts Officially Confirmed for Wii U

Posted by routerbad on 19 June 2013 - 11:34 AM

You are right. In fact, the official Call of Duty website makes no mention of a Wii U port anywhere, which could be telling since they already have forum and pre-order sections for the Xbox360, XboxOne, PS3, PS4, and the PC. Looking back at the source of this topic's article, it may be too soon to categorize a Wii U release of Call of Duty: Ghosts as "official."

No, they've said it's coming, e3insider even posted it on their site, but it was removed shortly after it made the news rounds.  IW and Nintendo are intentionally holding it back, for what reason your guess is as good as mine.  I only hope that there is a Direct coming in the short term with an official announcement or they announce bundles or something.

#224033 Nintendo accepts blame for poor Wii U sales

Posted by routerbad on 19 June 2013 - 08:43 AM

He does answer to the board of directors, and the consumer buying the product is what the board of directors use to evaluate Mr. Iwata's performance.  Nintendo's earnings for the past few years have been historic lows for Nintendo, they wont sit idle forever waiting for Iwata's master plan to come together.  The consumer ultimately dictates the success of any company, so in an indirect way, he actually does have to care what the consumer thinks.  I already own a Wii U with over 10 games, so he doesnt need to convince me that the Wii U is a good product, but the mass market just doesnt see it yet.  He has to come up with a way to convince the mass audience that the Wii U is a product worth purchasing.  Thats why I think its somewhat irrelevant what Sony and Microsoft are doing, the Wii U and PS4 are far from being interchangable products.  They offer very different products and software offerings, so just because you own a PS4 doesnt mean that the Wii U doesnt appeal to you, the software offering on the Wii U could easily justify the purchase of another console, especially as the price of hardware comes down.

Correct, but he doesn't detail his plans to the public, he details his plans to the board.  Ultimately people buying the product is what is going to save his job, but what he intends to do, every minute detail, is definitely going to be spelled out to them though we have to wait and let it happen.
