I have had a WiiU since launch here in the UK & most shops have dropped the console & only a couple even bother to stock WiiU games, i have given up on it now, well i did some months back actually, just get over it.

Thats funny because I have seen Wii U being stocked in many shops.

My local Tesco Superstore (medium sized tesco) stocks some Wii U games.

My nearest Tesco Extra (giant tesco) stocks quite a few Wii U games and the Premium console.

My nearest GAME stocks Wii U consoles and pretty much all the major games (and this is a fairly small shop)

My nearest Toys R Us stocks the console and most of the games, it also has a demo unit.

My nearest HMV stocks the console and most games.

So I'm not really sure if someone is giving you false information, or if you just live in a tiny village with nothing but newsagents and a co op.

OK so Asda, the UK's second biggest supermarket doesn't stock it in stores currently, but it is still being sold on their website. Majority of people will buy games consoles online anyway and for the few that don't the UK's biggest supermarket chain and the UK's biggest video game chain both stock the Wii U in stores, along with the others I mentioned.

I don't have a problem with people criticising the Wii U or commenting on the situation it is in right now, but I do have a problem with people spouting out false information just so they can moan about the Wii U.

It seemed more like a graphical showpiece in a sense while lacking good and enticing gameplay.

Thats 99% of all games today, on screen you are seeing all kinds of epic things taking place, but in actuality what yoy are actually doing gameplay wise, you can accomplish by slapping your genitals on the controller.

#255080 Ps4=Wii U in graphics IMO

Posted by 3Dude on 08 November 2013 - 05:44 AM

Killzone was not that impressive. Also, Killzone 1 and 2 looked good for their time in trailers, but absolutely terrible when you actually played them. I don't think that was live at any rate, I think they were showing a pre-made video.
lol killzone 1 and 2 looked AMAZING in there final game play state,i know this is a wii u forum but come on,ps4 BLOWS the wiiu away graphically already, never have i seen such fanboys as wii u ones...the wii u is a dissapointment that comes NOWHERE near the graphics of the ps4.

Killzone 1 was a complete terd, all around, that got laughably buried by halo 2 and mp echoes in every conceivable way. Even on the ps2 there were much much better looking and playing games.

Maybe if the wii u was DESIGNED and marketed to be a powerhouse console it could be considered a dissapointment, but it wasnt. Ps4 and xbone, however, were, and failed miserably. Its the smallest jump in history, and by the time they launch they will already be outclassed by mid range pc's, and within months by low end pc's. Their games by and large failed to meet even the bare minimum of 1080p standard, making the expectations their fans had of 4k comical. And the framerate STILL isnt getting to 60 Fps... dead rising 3 was just revealed to be 720p 30fps.

Wii u is an underdog, surprising people left and right by doing things they dismissed it as not being able to do... While ps4 and xbone are failing expectations left and right, not meeting the bare minimum stuff fans expected.

And since the design is little more than an off the shelf apu with a tablet cpu and x86 architecture.... any game on xbone or ps4 can be insta ported to pc with better performance and graphics. Why would anyone spend money on ps4/xbone, when they can take grandmas old i5, slap a $60 graphics card in it, and play 99% of the same games at 1080p 60fps?

#253757 Assassin creed 4 is out on wii u if anybody noticed.

Posted by Goodtwin on 30 October 2013 - 06:48 AM

So far it sounds like a very respectable port.  Its not really outclassing the 360/PS3 build in any significant way, but at least its another solid release for Wii U.  Between Batman Origins, Deus Ex, and Assassins Creed 4, it looks like Wii U is getting respectable versions of all these games this year.  Wii U will only shine with exclusive software.  Hell, even AC4 on PS4 doesnt look that much better than the 360/PS3 build.

#252347 3DS add-on for the Wii U?

Posted by Jason777123 on 20 October 2013 - 02:30 PM

I've actually been wondering myself why they haven't come out with this yet. I was always confused as to why they didn't come out with a DS player for the Wii as well (I assumed it was because the Wii wasn't powerful enough), but with the Wii U's gamepad and extra power, a DS/3DS player would be a perfect match. You could have the top screen on the TV and the bottom screen on the gamepad. I mean it's even a touch screen! I feel like Nintendo is going to come out with this eventually, it would be a huge missed opportunity if they didn't. The Wii U's definitely powerful enough to add anti-aliasing as well to smooth out the pixels.

#251449 This animation I'm doing...

Posted by Lupaie on 15 October 2013 - 07:30 AM

I'd like to receive some feedback on this animation I'm creating for work. There are some principles which are visualised as Bottles with different blocky substances. Don't try to understand why etc. But I saw some little things myself (The spinning object in the middle is not perfectly aligned in the centre, resulting in a strange motion). I need to adjust that and some minor other things. There are not any soundeffects and music yet, need to do those later.

Sometimes I lose myself though and fail to see any errors until I watch it back some weeks after finishing, and I think..."why didn't I see that". Well, this project is on a budget and very short deadline...

Well, any feedback would be welcome.

#250780 Dual graphics engine

Posted by krizzx on 10 October 2013 - 09:14 AM

This is something I've always held back, but the recent statement about multi-threaded shadows has really got me wondering.

For those unfamiliar with them http://www.amd.com/u...graphics.aspx#3

DualGraphicsEngines1.jpg

Might the Wii U GPU have some components of a dual-graphics engine? It was made during the time where AMD was focusing on them and and some of the stats I've been seeing in games seem unexplainable otherwise.

Its seems that just like ATI's old tessellators, it didn't see much usage do to priority going to Nvidia architecture and designs that were more global. Seems it requires specific programming to properly use.

A console on the other hand is the perfect place for hardware of that nature do to the fact that all consoles of the same name will have the exact same specs.

#250241 Slightly Mad Studios Reveals Wii U Build Information

Posted by krizzx on 07 October 2013 - 10:19 AM

Been seeing some pretty productive technical discussion on this forum and I've decided to try my hands with contributing here.

Build 572 (27/9/13, Team Member+)

WiiU:

* WiiU Thread Setup for RVM/Envmap and Phase3 rendering
* WiiU – tweaked Gamma down again
* HUD Mirror rendering optimised for WiiU – uses it own aliased targets for phase1/2/3, removing a texture copy. Increased Mirror resolution + all in MEM1
* WiiU Increased thread priority for RenderThreads

Build 571 (26/9/13, Team Member+)

WiiU:

* WiiU – various command buffer call state fixes + redundant sampler setting caching
* WiiU warning fix (CarPreviewObject)
* Rain lighting corrected – ambient-and-shadow buffer alias created for particles shadowing

Build 570 (25/9/13, Team Member+)

WiiU:

* WiiU shader parameter setting optimisations
* Support for rendercontext SlopeScale bias (polygon offset in GX2 speak) : fixes shadow z-fighting/motherships

Build 569 (24/9/13, Team Member+)

WiiU:

* WiiU – enabled multi-threaded shadow rendering
* Fix Ambient Shadow MAX_THREADS. WIP RVM multi-threading
* WiiU. DisplayLists are now double buffered – fixes crash in release when using threaded rendering

Build 568 (23/9/13, Team Member+)

WiiU:

* WiiU 0 switch over to Raw Vertex Ptr method for particle systems
* WiiU – support for Raw Vertex/Index Buffers (accelerates particle rendering, also fixes the track worn racing line)
* WiiU – adjust Gamma down a little (Ged mentioned things look a little washed out)
* Fix broken WiiU compilation after recent Gui refactor
* CHUD – fix KickOffRendering sequence around Phase3/landscape and forward rendering

This seems confirms that the API used by the Wii U is in fact GX2, and the multi-thread shadow rendering has caught my eye.

#248995 Why I want to develop for Wii U hardware

Posted by BrosBeforeGardenTools on 01 October 2013 - 05:28 AM

I'm in college for game development related stuff and if current info is to be believed, I can make a game for the Wii U for about $3000, for the price of the dev kit and Unity package. Many indie developers are going to be using Unity for making games for the Wii U, XBox One and PS4. It's just how the cookie crumbles.

Unity is not well multi-threaded. Many processes run on a single core and max out the single core of a processor. According to 3Dude, the Wii U has the most powerful individual cores of all three systems. Which means the Wii U will offer the most CPU performance for Unity games.

Unity is also not 64-bit in any practical way. Which means that you can't take advantage of more than about 3 GB RAM. You might as well develop for the Wii U's 1GB memory.

Really the only advantage the XBox One and PS4 have is much more GPU power.

You can ask me questions about any of this stuff, but keep in mind I'm still learning. It's not until you are learning that you realize how stupid you were.
