First off, List is flawed by the lack of 3 of the greatest first person shooters franchises in the name of half life, BioShock, and borderlands. That alone shows severe lack of knowledge about the best series in the genre.

Secondly, fallout is not a fps. It's a western role playing game with shooter elements. That's like calling meroid prime aa fps. Metroid prime is a first person adventure game with shooting elements. The end goal of metroid prime is to explore where as Fallouts end goalgoal is to explore a world and role play in it. First person shooters tend to focus around the killing of enemies over other hand play elements, where as it is possible to kill very little in the newer fallouts.

From the list though, I'm picking team fortress 2. Easily accessible, fun, free, and suited for all types of play sessions.

The shock series also used to be fpa's. At least until infinite.

Oh, did they? Sorry, I haven't played any other shocks besides Bioshock1/Infinite(They are on my purchase list, but that's a LONG list) and Infinite was the one I played most recently. Sorry about that.

I am disappointed at your lack of Unreal, similar to this poll.

I kept the list to games I've played, so I left out Unreal for that reason. I'll add it in.

goldeneye wii was essiancialy COD with different balance. mostly more varied map design with large flaws in them.

the snipers felt balanced to me, there was good andn bad sniping maps, and most importantly, they were only really usefull as snipers. i used all the gun classes in that game, the balanced to eachother were great, the level up system balance was off with OP stuff near the end, along with OP perks/ ect. but the SMG/AR/Sniper/SHOTGUN and map variation devastated COD's, but then was broken by a few big flaws in other areas, like spawning, levelup syste, ect.

id consider jamesbond games more alive if they still played like the old ones, 2 weapons/ or unlimited, pick up armer/ammo/guns/ect. around the map, plenty of usefull gadgets, ect, maiby starting default loadouts, ect.

Snipers definitely weren't balanced. As soon as someone got to level 20 and had a silencer? GG. You would quite literally be alive one second, dead the next. And you didn't even know where the person who shot you was :/

I agree that the old games were more original and the things you mentioned are the reason why. I thinka mix between Goldeneye and Agent Under Fire would be a sweet game :)

that is a attachment balance issue. (like longberrel and target finder in BO2), not a weapon balance issue.

as for the mix. id through in nightfire to the mix. it just came together better than underfire did, underfire had sweet and fun mechanics but it all didnt fit together as well.

Not really since all of the of the snipers had no recoil and could kill in like 2 hits.
