#134944 Nintendo Says It’s Not Making Anymore Wii Games

Posted by dagwood dang on 20 November 2012 - 04:01 PM

I own a Wii, but I have no problem with Nintendo focusing all it's energies on Wii U.

#125966 Why I won't buy the Wii U (please read)

Posted by dagwood dang on 08 November 2012 - 09:37 AM

While I agree that they could have easily programmed the Wii U Gamepad to function as a controller for any or all of the VC games, and that this whole situation reeks of greed,
I'm still going to buy a Wii U.

Besides I already have all those peripherals. I'd hate to not need them anymore. Still, it would've been nice not to have to switch controllers so much. Also, too many peripherals starts to feel gimmicky.

psh. Nobody here knows. lol.

I'll wait for Nintendo or a credible youtube video of someone literally opening a Wii U and breaking down the specs.

This is what rumors do to you poor ladies and gents.

#106289 Do you think the game pad should have been an optional extra?

Posted by dagwood dang on 11 September 2012 - 06:02 PM

Yes...you have a very good and valid point there. I can't argue with that. But still I doubt that Nintendo would sink from the design of a controller and some slightly inferior graphics.

I dunno.
I mean, I don't think they'd sink either, but it was precisely the design of a controller that gave them the boost they needed in this current gen. Let's face it, GC was a fine system, but the PS2 was kicking it's boo-tay in sales. Better graphics sure wasn't helping then.

I just think that Nintendo is (are) known for innovation, and they should stick with it. That's how they win, and it's how we win.

While I don't agree with the OP feelings, I also do not agree with this statment. If Nintendo was to release the system with just a standard controller and never have invented the Gamepad I think they would still do very well in the long run. Look at the old consoles, Super Nintendo was a graphically better system over the NES and it had a standard controller. Same with N64 to SNES and GC to N64. They all had a standard controller. So I doubt that would have any real affect on their system.

but you have to remember that the SNES controller WAS different in it's time. The shoulder buttons were revolutionary. INNOVATION!
With the 64? They had the rumble feature and analog stick. INNOVATION! ... although Sony quickly adapted those ideas and ran with em.
I'd say the Gamecube had probably the least innovative controller, except for the clickable buttons in the analog triggers.

Point is, Nintendo has always been about innovation. Introducing something new to the industry so that everyone else could be amazed... and then in some way, apply the idea to their own consoles.
I don't think that Nintendo going with just regular controllers would be a good idea. It wouldn't help move the industry forward, and it sure as heck wouldn't make a difference to the other fanboys. They'll find something else to pick at.
If Nintendo didn't focus on innovation, game controllers would still look like this...

It'd be one thing if the Pro Controller had buttons that the WiiU Gamepad didn't have...

...but that's not the case, every button on the Pro controller (four shoulder buttons, four face buttons, +/-/Home)
is also represented on the Wii U Gamepad. After using it for a while, it won't feel any different from a "regular" controller, I can promise you that.

From what I hear, the only reason the Pro Controller exists is because certain developers complained about the Wii U Gamepad's size and wouldn't make games for Ninty, unless they made a "regular" controller.

regardless of what the masses complain about, innovation is key. The Wii U Gamepad was the right decision.

#101216 Nintendo Power being discontinued after 24 years.

Posted by dagwood dang on 22 August 2012 - 08:26 AM

It was an awesome mag, no question, but I'm not surprised.

The best part about N Power was that it was owned by Nintendo, so every now and again, that would be the first mag to release detailed info on the latest big N game, having a multi-page cover on it and some kind of poster. I loved getting them in the mail. It was like Christmas! Plus the strategy guides were great for many players, but I never used 'em. I would always feel like I was cheating when I used one.

Anyway, I think the problem with N Power was... that it was owned by Nintendo. As we all know, the company is very secretive, and isn't too quick to unveil any juicy insider info, which is probably good for the company, but not so fun for the magazine team. Most of the insider stuff I found about Nintendo would be from other gaming mags. All the other mags had some sort of 'rumor' section in it, while Nintendo Power would pretend that you didn't know about all the unofficial news. Eventually, I let my subscription run out and jumped to other mags (GI, Game Pro, and EGM...r.i.p.)

Seems like the hunger for rumors and unofficial news, Which Nintendo Power wasn't able to provide, may have been one of the things that shut em down.
I mean think about how much rumor stuff we talk about in THIS forum...

#99652 Analog triggers

Posted by dagwood dang on 14 August 2012 - 07:09 AM

I emailed ninety asking about analog triggers on both the Wii u gamepad and the pro controller.

Hello,

Thanks for contacting us about the upcoming Wii U console. I know you were hoping for additional information about the Wii U GamePad but, unfortunately, the answer about if they are digital or analog hasn’t yet been revealed. What I can tell you is that everything we have available to share regarding Wii U has been added to our website.

It may be nothing, but he didn't say they weren't, so I still have hope.

I was at E3 dude.

Neither the Wii U Game Pad nor the the Pro Controller had analog triggers.
I repeat, no analog triggers on the controllers at E3. They were just digital buttons.

It's possible that they might change the design again between now and release, but it's doubtful.
In fact, I heard that the versions at E3 were the final versions.

Sorry to burst your bubble. I was pretty disappointed when I first squeezed em.

Personally I would love for Chaos to come back.

The Perfect Chaos battle in SA1 was beyond epic.

How can you not want to fight this guy?

I really liked SA1 too. The story was epic and wasn't as cheesy as SA2, and the levels were pretty good ant there wasn't too much rail grinding like in SA2.

I'd like for them to
-make a good storyline. I want sonic to save the world in an awesome way
-figure out any and all camera/control issues (a common 3-d Sonic game problem)
-go back to the music style of the Genesis games (& maybe Sonic Colors too)
-keep most of the levels about exhilarating speed &  fun platforming

If Sega can guarantee me those four things, I'll reserve the game yesterday ^_^
